From a friend of a friend.

50 YEARS AGO TODAY July 22, 1970 was the worst day of my life .I was in Alpha company 2/506 and we were attacked by 400 NVA and we lost 14 KIA and 56 wounded and we only had 6 that were not wounded or killed. It was a bad day for us. We were rescued by Delta 2-506 on the morning of July 23. Hueys and Cobras filled the sky early morning at sunrise to extract Alpha company, the last company out in the field and to evacuate the last soldiers remaining on the Firebase Ripcord. After a 4 1/2 month battle for Firebase Ripcord, it is abandoned. There were 138 American soldiers killed in action and over a thousand wounded in this battle.
I HAVE TO POST this again as I do every year to thank the true heroes I served with and the heroes that paid the ultimate sacrifice out there with us that day. I would not be here today if it was not for them. Fifty years later and we still remain friends and a lot of them are on facebook with me. Tommy Webster lead the charge up the hill. Ron Janezic, Tommy Aguon, Joe Evans, Lee Widjeskog, Darryl Reina, William Baldwin, Floyd Alexander, Tim Newman. And I can not forget the guys from Delta company, that came in the next morning and rescued us. Freddie Gilbert, Ron Virgilio, Tommy Counts, Rudy Forsman, Marc Skinner and the rest of them.

The story of the prolonged battle for FB Ripcord is a fascinating one.
