I have an 09 silverado with 140k on it that had a hard life before I adopted her... It needs new front struts, I'm new to the whole IFS system so is there any recommended things to replace while I'm up there fooling with the struts?

Sway bar end links are probably gonna break if you have to take them loose. Go ahead and get them. Depending on the what the control arm bushings and ball joints looked like, I may change them and it’ll all be new

Ad a 3" lift kit and longer struts
It's a grocery getter lol it's been off road a few times but I cannot seem to find any friends that want to go to uwharrie with me.

Thanks @Burt Gummer getting together an order for rock auto right now

Awesome thank you, wife needs seat covers for her car that 5% off I might just spend a grand lol

Complete control arms with new bushings cost a little more, but would be pretty easy to change since you’re gonna have it apart. Remember to get a front end alignment afterwards

Yeah front end alignment and some new TPMS sensor one went out and another is acting funny. Do y'all have a brand of complete strut assembly you recommend?

Monroe quick struts, not the economy part. http://www.monroe.com/en-US/e-catalog
I got Moog new control arms for my '99 Taurus Wagon, cheaper then the labor to R/R the new bushings I had.

Bilsteins for the shocks all the way around.

Wheel bearings
Ball joints
Bushings
Tie rods

Brakes if they need since youll have them off anyway. Have the rotors turned.

I put 4200s on the rear I'm just having an issue finding a complete assembly for bilstiens anywhere it's only the strut so I'd have to take apart the assembly and put it back together. I've never done it before and those spring compressors kind of look scary.

In my experience, it is not bad. I’ve done a few different vehicle strut disassemblys, but not your model. @Mike Overlay for advice

If you are dead set on doing it yourself, acquire the parts you desire and take the struts to a independent mom and pop shop with a wall mounted strut tool and pay them to disassemble and reassembled your strut assemblies. I would bet its an hrs labor or less. Well wort it

Are bilstiens that much better than monroe? And yeah I want to do it myself the quotes I received were $1200 to $1500. For monroe's I can do it in the driveway for less than $400

Yes, there is a reason for the price difference. How long did those Bilstiens last? The Monroe, I promise you wont make no where as long.
You can still get Bilstiens replacement and have the cartridge swapped out, with you doing the assembly remove and install

This is the route I took with my ‘03 Ram about two years ago.

Brand new upper and lower controls arms, with bushings and ball joints installed, were roughly the same price as just buying bushings and ball joints. And much less labor to swap out the control arms...and no need for a press or specialized tool like the bushings and/or ball joints.

I just did the rear shocks 6 months ago maybe 7k miles. It rides considerably better than the stock rancho shocks.

just get the whole problem solver kit, pick up some new hubs and shocks. I have a 2008 with 260k miles and I’m about to rebuild the front again and keep driving it since the price of a new trucks are ridiculous.
Mail came yesterday with monroe complete assembly. I'll do the full fix kit maybe next year before I get tires. I checked it out and my ball joints are still in good condition surprisingly. They must have been changed at one point before I bought the truck. Hopefully doing the struts next weekend if the sun keeps shining and the wife doesn't find some random project I HAVE to do lol

Let us know how the Monroe’s work out. I saw those and was kind of leaning towards the KYB’s after like you being unable to find a complete bilstein assembly.

Will do, I'm keeping the stock ones if these monroe ride like crap I'll drop a new set of bilstiens off at the shop and have them swap the struts out with the stock set. Unfortunately I can only work in weekends and we don't have an extra vehicle so doing that RN isn't an option. One shop told me KYB is good and what they install typically.

Nice I did some moog quick struts I forgot to update my post. Rides considerably better now. Hopefully they last for a few years. I drove it for a few days without the leveling kit and with 33s they only rubbed when I hit a bump. Ended up putting the level back on and got the front end aligned. I also got a camper topper for a decent deal off FB marketplace. Next are tow mirrors and a different radio with a backup camera (wife wants one bad for when she drives it)

I'll be doing Bilsteins on my '13 within the year, along with a 2" front, 1" rear "lift". It's my daily & the most off-road it'll see is the occasional pasture. I'm more concerned with towing a boat or camper & snowy/muddy roads.
