Does anyone have one that I can borrow or rent? I was about to order one but figured I'd check with the forum first.

Take your barrel pins out and leave bolt in the receiver. Let the bolt hammer the barrel out. 2-3 forward hits will free it.

Thought he was taking a barrel off. Thread says barrel removal tool.

correct.... kidd barrels are oversized... when you put them on you start them in the reciever and use the barrel block to draw them in to the receiver... taking them off you need a tool to push them out
Well, learned something new. I didn't know that.

Yup, to get this one in I had to freeze the barrel and heat up the receiver and even after all that I still had to use a rubber mallet to get it in.

soak the receiver with mousemilk, kroil, or pb blaster, and tap the receiver with a plastic mallot while holding it.... it will come off...

when you put the new one on, use a bit of anti seize on the barrel

Thought you were trying to put one over on the unknowing.... But before I said something and made a fool of myself, I found this. So, I too, learned something.

When I was a "new kid" on the flight line in the USAF, we new guys were fair game to mess with. We were always being told to "Go to supply and get a bucket of propwash," or a left-handed screwdriver, or some other non-existent tool or device. For whatever reason, they never messed with me. I worked on F-100 Super Sabre's, and one day I was told to go to the tool crib and get a "Tail-hook Stretcher." To which I replied, "Don't try to send me off on some wild-goose chase just to mess with me. There ain't no such thing as a tail-hook stretcher." After getting a a good swift kick in the butt, I was told to go to the tool crib. It turns out, there actually WAS a device called a tail-hook stretcher. The tail hook on an F-100 was a very heavy piece of spring steel, with a "shoe" on the end. The "stretcher" actually compressed it, which took the curve out of it, so you could lift the end of it up and lock it into the holding jaws.

At least time I did a little research before saying anything... thumbsup.gif

Purchased a removal tool bit it still won't budge. Guess I'll have to break down and take it to a smith

The F-100 was a great plane once it got airborne, but on the ground, it looked like a pig. Hence, the nickname, the "lead sled."

My base commander at Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM was none other than Chuck Yeager. Actually got to meet him once.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread... hijack.gif

I would try putting it in the freezer overnight then warm the receiver with a torch while trying the tool again before I go to the smith...

Thermal cycling it like that and soaking it with PB blaster could do it too. Get it to suck into the joint and lower the friction...
