So I had a plain black Hogue 10/22 stock for a bull barrel. Got bored with it so I did some aluminum tape bedding, $10 roll of adhesive vinyl, $38 kydex cheek riser. Could be a little better, but I’m satisfied with it being my first attempt. I also did a lite brushing of Gorilla glue on edges to keep the vinyl from peeling back. I knew there was a hidden BUBBA in me somewhere..not in the perverted way either😂

Nice work!
I had an original 10/22 takedown with the black stock. Hated the stock.
Had a pristine factory Birch stock laying around, so I cut it and milled it on a mini mill drill.
Figured it would be FUBAR before I was finished but it turned out perfect!

I added weight to the stock to give it some extra weight and to balance the bull barrel.

-Removed the buttpad. 2 screws
-Lined some saran wrap and stuffed it tight with plumbers putty.
Added a couple old CZ round bolt knobs in there too 🙄.
-Then a little more weight from the cheek riser hardware.

I’m guessing it added around a pound or so to the rear and it’s SO much better than before. These cheap plastic stocks SUCK for heavy barrels

Thanks! I wish Ruger would do wood stocks for the bigger barrels and add a nice Pillar too.

What was the vinyl wrapping like? Lots of special cuts?
I had to trim as I went. Heat gun is required to get the adhesive to grip. A sponge and X-acto knife were the main tools. Heat then press with sponge to fill voids. I made a template for the forend and rear since they were the easiest. After it cools, trim edges. This is where the glue helped. I really just winged it for the most part. The grip area was several strips. I had some grip tape too so I cut an oval and placed it on the bottom of the grip. This fixed 2 things: covered all the ends of the strips & and gave a nice textured grip where the other 3 fingers grab the grip.

Nice work Sir

Now I want a heavy barrel 10/22 and try bedding it. Interesting to see how well some of these can shoot…
