10mm vs 357Mag?

10mm gets my vote.

...but I am somewhat arbitrary in my preferences. I choot 10mm, 41 mag and 45 Colt. Most folks choot 357 mag and 44 mag.

Which is the better round for a Hunting Sidearm and possibly to hunt with, not for use as CCW or HD?

You have a higher capacity from the semiauto. It’s easier to shoot a 10 mm from a semiautomatic.

Hardcast bullets from Underwood and Buffalo Bore are available from both. You don’t want to use a hollowpoint necessarily since you want adequate penetration through what you’re hitting.

I personally carry 460 S&W for the purposes of hunting with a handgun. I use a 454 Casull as my backup.

I’d say an 8-shot N frame S&W in 357 or a 1911 style 10mm with long slide. Don’t bother with the 10mm revolvers, lower capacity and moon clips needed for quick ejection. Going with 357 leaves you open for more rifle options. 10mm leaves you open for a wider range of handgun options.

I hate to say this, by my Glock 20 is my hunting pistol these days.
My Smiths 357 and 44mag stay at home.
With a full mag the 20 isn't much different in weight that the smiths with just six rounds in them.

Either will completely destroy a squirrel, so I vote for a .22, either a revolver or short carbine.

If I were going to hunt with it I would absolutely go with a Glock 40MOS.

10mm...

Just how many ROUNDS are going to shoot at one animal ? 6 is more than sufficient unless you are hunting big ass POLAR bearsor Grizzleys

I have also been told that semi-autos are not approved as bear guns up in AK due to lack of cycling during full contact shots. So that may also be a consideration in case you encounter some of those 2' squirrels from the other thread .

Well, then, if you still want to use 10mm, a S&W 610 is yer gat, if'n you can handle the moonclips:

It gets a little dicey when your dogs have 8-10 pissed off hogs bayed and when you walk up everything goes sideways when the hogs see a human.
Pigs and dogs running everywhere, you get knocked off your feet and the catch dog has one by the ear that has your foot in his mouth.
You don't have time to think about reloading in a mess like that.
So to me the G20 with 15 rounds makes me feel a lot better than one of my revolvers with six rounds when I am hog hunting.
The foot is fine by the way, couldn't shoot the hog until he turned loose without shooting myself in the foot.
Thank God for thick leather Danner boots. Don't go hog hunting in rubber boots.
But no, I don't hunt polar bears or grizzles but if I did I think I would be carrying my G 20 with a couple of full mags.

That makes a lot of sense. The only time I've been told about hog hunting was from a friend that hunts them in Texas. He uses a 458 socom. Does not use dogs. Thanks for your explanation. I can see where you might need more than 6 rounds.
