Been looking for a decent .17 hmr to beat around with. I have narrowed (i think) down to a Tikka T1X with a 16" barrel or a Bergara BMR with a 20" barrel. I really like the Tikka and how compact it is, but I do worry a bit if 16" barrel would have any effect on the accuracy. Any info or personal experience with either of these would be greatly appreciated. thanks

From what I’ve seen of the YT videos, the Tikka will have the better bolt throw and trigger, better action, the Bergara is a 700 based platform and will have the better aftermarket, though you can get KRG, MDT for either.

I have both rifles albeit in different calibers. I have the tikka in 17 hmr (20 inch barrel) and the bergara bmr in 22lr. The tikka is smoother, has a better bolt throw, better trigger (fantastic with a 1.5 lb spring). The bergara has a marginally better stock, and slightly more robust magazines (also comes with a 5 and 10 rounder). My tikka shoots under a half inch at 100 yards... bergara shoots just under half at 50 yards. Aftermarket is actually a bit of a stalemate because the tikka can use all the same aftermarket stocks and trigger add-ons as the full-size tikka t3x while the bergara uses rem 700 pattern. If I was only buying one it would probably be the tikka t1x. That being said, I'm more than happy with both purchases. They have both been very effective on bushy tails as well.
