I have a Marlin 1895 45-70, and have been upgrading a few things that I didn't like, mainly the extremely stiff loading gate. I replace the loading gate with a Ranger point precision flyweight gate, and very impressed with how it functions.

After playing a round a bit, I decided to upgrade the extractor with a stainless one from Midwestern gun works. I didn't pay close enough attention, and ended up ordering one for the 1895 MXLR, which was chambered in .450 marlin. I didn't notice that when I ordered and installed it. The extractor fit the bolt perfectly, and dry cycled in the action without issue. I tested a few rounds and every one jammed when trying to cycle. I took the extractor off thinking it might have been bent with too much tension. Finally I looked up the part number and found way down in the description that it is for the 1895 MXLR. I'm guessing the only difference between the two is the tolerances between bolt face and extractor. 0.070" for the rimmed 45-70 and .050" for the rimless 450 marlin
.
