Well I have tried to love my Glock 30sf but I just can't. So I'm on the hunt to find a 4"-4.25" 1911. Let's hear what u have and if you would buy it again or throw it in a lake. I currently have a Kimber Series 1 FS that I love so my 2 shooting buddies suggest I look into the Ruger SR1911 Commander so it's on the table.

    Let's hear ur ideas.

Commanders are dumb, short barrel, short sight radius, big honkin grip, much like the G45.
I bought this one when I was young, dumb, 21, from Wal-Mart. It was a GI model, had I any sense I would've spent $50 more and gotten the fullsize stainless next to it.
It's always been a sweet shooter, heavy as a hammer and used as one once, I've spent some time and a little money trying to make it more appealing, but it's still just a misfit.
If you want one cheap, basic, reliable, and accurate; or a good base to tinker with the Springfield Champion is hard to beat.

I love full size1911s, and commanders. these are commanders in my carry rotation, colt, sig, both the bottom ones are RIA,one in 45,one in 10mm,
The only knock I have on the Ruger is the plunger tube is cast in the frame, and that just a personal peeve of mine,
The RIA are the best value, the sig has all the bells and whistles but is expensive, the colt is my personal favorite used ones can be found for 600 or Less if you're patient, it's a great carry gun, for me anyway

Ruger's Commander won't disappoint you, I absolutely love mine, still bone stock after thousands of rounds.

I love the commander, points better than full size and a grip I can get a grip on. Have colts in .45 and .38super, keep thinking about a custom.

Never could warm to the concept of an all steel Combat Commander. I love the Colt Commander series. For my lightweight 1911 now I have the full size Government lite weight and an Agent. I have a Commander size Fusion that I got off here and while I like it ok, I would never carry a steel commander size 1911.

Maybe that's why I now own this one. This gun has a history that @BatteryOaksBilly will have to tell. Spoiler alert! It spent a lot of time submerged in salt water after a coastal flood. Not pictured, but I have the home made compensated barrel and extension that was made for it. I actually had this fine old Colt out to Battery Oaks a few weeks ago and we all shot some rounds through it. It's never a disappointment.

I would be afraid to guesstimate how many rounds have been through that gun. It is a fine old Colt built by a fine old gentleman who just turned 91. He built it for be back in the 1900s. 'Bout 80.

In 19 hundred and 70 I went to Treasure City in Florence, S.C. On A Sunday and bought a Colt Commander in 45 and a Colt Gold Cup in .45. Both OTD for $200. The GC was $125 and the Commander was $75. To show what a commitment that was, I was Not making $200 a week then.

I like the Commander platform. I also like the CCO configuration for carry.

There were like 7? WMs '04 (guess I was 22) that sold handguns, I believe the majority were in Alaska were I happened to be, also had a catalog you could order from shipped to store no transfer fee. I understand none do anymore.

Does anyone local to W-S have a Lightweight Commander in 45acp that I could handle?
