So my 2008 Tundra has a squeak that I just cant figure out. I'm reaching out here for opinions and possible solutions from folks who are more vehicly inclined than myself.

It happens between 5 and 15mph and more when turning right but also when just going forward. It's not a constant squeaaaak, but a squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak as I accelerate and then stops just over 15mph. Usually when turning right and when going that slow.

No feeling of grinding or an issue with my brakes that I can tell.

Thought it might have been the sway bar but it would be a constant squeak or only when it flexed or whatever and not sound like it was happening as it was rolling if that makes sense.

Sounds like its coming from the front passenger side and is really friggen annoying.

Any point for me to look at? If it was the drive shaft it then would do it when turning left (it doesn't) that slow too right?

It's going in for an oil change this week and I'm going to bring it up, but figured I would ask here before they want to start ripping apart wheel hubs or something.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Gents!

Sounds like it might be a bushing. Have them grease every fitting while they are under there. See if that does the trick

You don't see many grease fittings on Japanese vehicles, but after Google Fu.... the Tundras have them at the Driveshaft U-Joints.

Wear indicators on brakes??? Maybe after 15 mph the wind noise drowns it out??

Accelerate to 15 mph and apply the brakes to see if the noise stops..... this might help narrow it down...... check the dust shield to make sure it's not rubbing.

I bet it's the grease fitting at the driveshaft u-joint! That makes sense!

Not the wear indicator on the brakes, I've heard that on a previous vehicle and it not that. No issue or indication that its brake related. At least not to me anyways. The wind isn't drowning it out.

Dust shield? Now that I look at the part from a quick search that may be it. How do I get it to stop rubbing?

I had a very similar issue with my 2013 Tundra. Front brakes were worn and the rotors were a little warped. Only noticed it at low speeds and mostly when I turned one direction. Really strange but after having rotors and pads replaced, it went away.

@The Dude

The dust shield is a thin metal plate that is behind the brakes. They can get bent during front end work. Jack the front end up and turn the wheels by hand.....if you hear the noise then, see if the rotor is rubbing the dust shield. If so, gently pry the shield back a bit with a large screwdriver or such. Here is a pic without the brakes......

Took it in for the oil change yesterday and they couldn't replicate the issue. The kid (who seemed very knowledgeable) said it didn't look like the dust shield/backing plates were an issue. Said my rear brakes should get done at my next oil change. Other than that, since they can't replicate the issue they don't know what to fix.

So after some reading and more driving around with my windows down to listen to this dam noise, I'm going to buy a grease gun today and grease the u joints. I may have been wrong because after rolling the back window down, it now sounds like it could be coming from the rear.

I'm going to start by doing the WD40 test. One of the car forums said to soak the joints in WD40, if that fixes it, grease em.

Why waste the time? Just grease them while you're under there.

Bring a flashlight and look for rust dust around each cup grease seal. If you find one that shows dust get ready to replace it. It probably heated up to where the grease solidified and you'll never get any grease to flow into that cup.

So I crawled under there yesterday to grease the u joints and no zerk fittings to pump the grease into? Everything I've read and watched is showing that there should be zerk fittings.

Either way... pretty sure they need to be replaced. Getting the u joint and carrier bearing replacement priced today from a couple places I guess.

Is yours 2wd or 4wd. From looking on the Toyota forums only the 4WD versions have grease zerks on driveshaft.

So absolutely possible you don't have if your tundra is 2wd.
