Has this cartridge disappeared or still going?
I'm still looking it over. Trying to decide on it still.Just from an off the shelf ammo availably standpoint, it’s hard not to go .224 Valkyrie. The ammo is all over the place and the prices on it didn’t get crazy for some reason. Grendel and ARC are stupid with the cost of factory ammo right now.
With the problems get reloading supplies, I would not buy anything that is not NATO used. Try finding any 6.5 Creedmmor or Grendel ammo. Even 45-70 ammo. Now with the governrment going with the 6.8 round, guess who is getting all the primiers in the future? I would not buy any new caliber that I do not have supplies for to reload. It took forever to get bullets for the 6.5 Grendel and after looking for 6 months, I just found brass for the Grendel. I have been collecting brass at the range for over 3 years and might have picked up 3 dozen 224 cases. I think that people that shoot the 224 or even the 6.5 Grendel reload and they collect their brass.
85 cent a round, that’s pretty cheap…. and it’s plentiful right now.My buddy built a .224 Valkyrie and we both enjoyed shooting it but we quickly realized that it didn’t offer anything that other, proven calibers couldn’t do, if you’re looking for something to target shoot out to 1k that isn’t mainstream, the Valkyrie will definitely scratch the itch, but other calibers can do it cheaper.
That’s kinda where I am at, this is to get me started with the 224, but would like to do a bolt action one day, light recoiling gun I can get my daughter to shoot one day.I really like 224 Valkyrie. I got to the point where I wasn’t shooting it at all so I sold my setup but it was very accurate….once I found the loads it liked. Was the most difficult caliber I’ve ever load tested for however. Very small changes made huge differences, not as forgiving as 223 and 308 for example
80 and 88gr ELDs sure hit steel at 1000 harder than a 77gr .223.
I still wouldn’t mind building a 24-26” bolt gun for 90gr SMKs
I would not go PSA, I bought one, early on, and the QC was terrible.So….
Build or buy….
PSA is under 500 delivered, but I’ve never assembled an upper before, and thinking hard about it.
