Atm my "long range" ar is a 223 with a 20inch ballistic advantage DMR barrel. Shoots great. But I'm wanting a round ment for long range. I have a 20 inch 6.5 grendel but its giving me a fit and it is currently at me gunsmith....

Has anyone had any experience yet with the 224? I'm thinking of getting a barrel from brownells, 24 inch. The barrels are made by faxon.

I'm just wanting to bang steel ar 1000yds one day.... lol

Everything I've read about it says that it requires significant load development. I know a guy back in NY thats on .224 build #5 right now and is having a hell of a time getting something that will shoot consistantly out of his guns.

On paper they are a wonder round. In reality you need reloading equipment, and a lot of patience to get the round to its full potential.

The other big issue with it is the same as with the other smaller long range rounds. It doesn't have nearly the kinetic energy that the larger rounds do and if your shooting steel it can be very hard to determine a hit.

Well a 20 inch SS 1-6.5 twist barrel from bison armory and a 6.8 bolt are on the way. I can reload for it if necessary. I do hope though that one of the factory loads will do 1 moa groups at 100yds. That would be very good.
