So I picked up a 243 for my son the other day, who is 10 and is 5'2" and weighs around 130-135 lbs. My question is does anybody have any recommendations for a grain of bullet to shoot? I am thinking that he should be able to handle the recoil with no problem. Just my logic of thinking is the heavier the bullet the better. Lets hear what you guys think/know.

I'd give the 90 gr Nosler accubond a try.

Probably going to go to Bass Pro today at lunch and see what they have, have checked all my local spots and have been striking out so far. Can't give a kid a gun for Christmas with no ammo lol

My 13-year-old brother shoots 95 grain Federal Fusion soft points.

If your looking for ammo and not components I'd probably just go with the hornady american whitetail with the interlock bullet. It will work just fine and be accurate enough. When or if you lreload I'd try the bowlers in it or the barnes TTSX.

I like the 95 grain Federal Fusion in my .243. Accurate and great load for deer.

Wound up getting some 100 gr soft point federals. Only thing I could find because I was a slack ass and ran out of time. Took it out today and sighted it in. That 243 is a sweet shooting little round. Was proud of my son was his first time shooting a center fire bolt action rifle and he grouped about 1.5" at 100 yards off a wobbly rest and card table. I will pick something better up before next deer season
