I need to spend more time on that property and with those people.

My wife is a nurse. As she was driving me out to the compound today, she asked, "Can you just be their grounds keeper and I'll work at one of the hospitals?"

Sounds like a great idea! Haha!

I'm going to jump in on the graciousness bandwagon.

@Amps 13 , @foopid stucker , @BASIL , @Bahamadon , @Flashpoint, @JimP42 , @Infamous1 , @Mike Overlay , @garvin ,@Catfish , @Crazy Carl , @11B CIB , @Chdamn , @Chdamn's Wife , @Ikarus1 (and wife), @Burt Gummer (and galfriend), @kcult , @KnotRight (and wife), @Jeppo , @Geezer , @Brangus , @Millie , @Butter , @Button Pusher , @Stick Man (and Kelly), @Mustang Jon , @Tarowah , @JT , @svtf150 (and wife), it was an absolute pleasure to meet you or see you again. You are as a good a group as anybody could hope to be a part of, even peripherally. If you are ever in my neck of the woods, please hit me up for some WNC Southern hospitality, and if you ever need anything, please let me know. If I missed you, it's because I suck or we didn't get introduced.

@Michael458 , thanks so much for opening your business, home, and dead zoo to us. While my brain certainly isn't up to snuff on bullet technology, it was a delight to see and hear about your setup and knowledge on the subject. I really enjoy meeting people so inspired and inspiring.

@Johnny , it was great hanging out with another oddball. Thanks for all the laughs, serious talk, and the hammock hitching post.

@BatteryOaksBilly and RS, from the bottom of my heart, I much appreciate your time, resources, and Southern hospitality. You two are treasures. I always have a great time listening to your stories, hearing your wealth of real world knowledge, jokes, and just being a general fly on the wall while you speak. If there is every anything I can do for y'all, please let me know.

I think would have just as much without firing a single round on the range just to hang out with all you fine folks.

And for those that asked, here is a repost of Mom's dumpling recipe:

I thought my wife made the dumplins but it was my mother, so here is the recipe, verbatim from her. Since this is my mother, consider this a disclaimer not to read if you are easily offended, confused, ethnic, unrepentantly northern, or have blood glucose issues. I'm sure all of these "measurements" are purely estimates and eyeballs, so don't feel constrained by anything the AMA might warn you against.

2 cans Great Value Big Butter Crescent rolls (that is the Wal Mart brand)
12 oz Mtn Dew
1 & 1/2 cups of sugar
Cinnamon/Allspice/apple pie spice to taste
1 stick of butter (I asked if it was salted butter and she laughed "yes, unless you're quair or something")
4-5 large Granny Smith apples which have to be from the Carolinas, apparently because those apples from Spanish or near Spanish (Florida?) speaking countries are flavorless trash. More commentary came with that, but it probably isn't needed here.

Mix the sugar, melted butter, and spice in a bowl, it'll be grainy.
Whop the crescent rolls
Roll up about a quarter to a half of each apple (sliced thin) in each crescent roll, peench it shut and put the seam down in:

a 9"x13" (you know, from "here to there" with your hands) GREASED pan until you've filled the pan.

Put a handful of the grainy mix over each dumplin, then pour the Mountain Dew over the whole thing.

The oven should have been preheated to 350 before all of this
bake 40-45 minutes.

mmmmmmm.....them dumplins……. thanks to the chefs for breakfast, sorry I had to leave before lunch.

For a second time, I had such a great time. much thanks to @BatteryOaksBilly and RS for the true southern hospitality and sharing the place with us.
I truly enjoyed everything @Michael458 shared with us (I am sure I will be more than "liking" your new posts) and thank you for all you have done with your work with bullet technology.
Thanks to all the sponsors and providers, chefs, and people who tolerated my babbling.
I had good times chatting with @Johnny , @Crazy Carl ,@Catfish , @premise , Adam, Alan, JT and many others I am embarrassed I cannot remember their names.
I wish I had more time to chat with so many more of the members . I warmly look forward to doing this again, and my wife is also interested in coming along...
hopefully I will manage to come down for a Sunday shoot sometime.

I cant say enough good things about this club and its members. YOU ALL MAKE ME PROUD.
Thanks for having me.

Shaun

ODE TO BATTERY OAKS. ( think Home on the Range)
O' give me a home
Where true shootists yet roam.
Hospitality and Trust still abound.
There's old and new friends to be found,
Tall Tales all around... Some true.
And great food all prepared just for you.
Gotta love Battery Oaks!
You'd be hard-pressed to find better folks.
Where the Wizard lives in fear ,
And old friendships grow more dear. Hope to see you much more through the years.
Don Rutherford

Had my first experience on a shot timer yesterday and my first crack at the wizard at Battery Oaks. He got the best of me but I got in 4 shots before I missed. Waiting for the shot timer to beep is a little nerve wracking but it’s nothing compared to shooting in front of some really good shooters while hoping not to embarrass yourself.

That's why I didn't even pretend to have anything on my hip.

Now, if they would have broken out a badminton set, some folks would have been taken to school.

We missed you. @premise helped us close down again this year. We missed your input.

I was looking forward to it since last year... Hate I missed the field trip to @Michael458 's too...

Next time for sure... and hopefully we can make it down sooner than that...

Dagblameit! I had every intention of doing what I could to help, but all I did was lay around (!) and eat. I managed to forget all my camera gear and didn't do the filming I had planned to do -- thank goodness there were plenty of shutterbugs around to take up that slack (one too many, if truth be told -- you know what I'm talking about! ). Next time, I'm going to try to do a better job of pulling my weight.

Attention:
Due to requests here is the recipe for the "Crack" corn verbatim from me wife:

1 regular size can of corn
1 regular size can of creamed corn
1 stick of butter
1 cup macaroni noodles
Jalapenos to taste
Half a small thing of Velveeta

Combine ingredients and cook till noodles are done. I cooked it on low in the crock pot about 3 hrs give or take.
Don't drain the cans of corn and you may have to add some water while cooking to keep it from getting too thick.
Recipe was doubled for the crock pot batch yesterday.

That's it. Enjoy!!

@premise
The dumplins were definitely deeelicious. I don't know how but we ended up with the last 5 or 6 of them which were desert after dinner tonite. Daughter and SIL had dinner with us. I wish you could have seen his face when he took the first bite. Already looking down my end of the table to see if there were more!! hahaha good stuff
Wife says copy that recipe!!! Many thanks to your Mom.

@BatteryOaksBilly
Don't tell my wife but your wifes cornbread is the BEST ever. We also ended up with a pan of that which we enjoyed with dinner tonite. Not the whole pan mind you.
My compliments to her please.

See what y'all miss out on leaving the Oaks early?? Hahahahahaha
