3 Gun in the Carolinas

Man, I’m losing interest in 3gun, as there’s just not a lot around here anymore.

There’s the CGGR monthly. And it’s a good match.
But man I miss Woody’s. That match was amazing. Quality. So much precision-y shooting. Really challenging the rifle skills. And a lot of top quality shooters. I don’t see a lot of them at CGGR.

My pile of shotgun crap hardly gets used anymore!

I wish there was more multi gun in this area. More 2 gun would be nice too.

JJ shoots all over, his positivity will likely counter my doom and gloom.

Yup. I’ve got a full set of Heavy Metal Gear and Tac Optics gear gathering dust.
I thought the Bushmaster Tarheel match was one of the best major matches I’ve ever shot.
The regionals at the Clinton House we’re always good, but everything changed when 3GN started caterering to the Pro wannabes. Cookie cutter made for TV stages and everybody scrambling to be a “sponsored” shooter. Sucked the fun right out of it.

CGGR, Clinton House are really the only ones I can think of right now. Ive fallen away from multi gun myself

“Nice shooting on that final stage Bob”.

”Yeah, the VortextrijiconhiperfireMagpul rifle was running great John. And my SpeedcrossBoombahAddidas kept me well grounded against these tough competitors. Coupled with my new BerrtaBenelliRosesports shotgun, and my JimsCustomSVI pistol, I was able to score well.
Thankfully I had my RedBull to give me energy and my LuepoldKahles range finder to help my accuracy. Thanks.”

Clinton house has 2 majors coming up this year. There is always hope to get the monthly/ quarterly matches back there. CGGR is still monthly. And heard samdhill is gonna be quarterly this year

You could not be more spot on, we do a 2 gun (rifle/pistol) every 3rd Saturday here at Flatwoods, and every 4th Saturday we do 3 "mini" matches, 3 stages all pistol, 3 stages all rifle and 3 stages all shotgun, you can shoot 1 mini match for $15 shoot 2 for $25 or all 3 for $35. If you ain't into "who can quad load the fastest" or "my sponsor gave me this badass setup, check me out" (just don't watch me as I can't hit Jack or defication), and we don't have a 79 page rule book. Join us sometime, I personally guarantee you will have a great time with no egos, attitudes or range lawyers.

Took a break for a couple of years. I still shoot the 5th Sunday match at Ant Hill. I miss shooting at Woodys and The Clinton House. What’s left?

Lee - I've been looking for an MD to start up 3 Gun at Low Country again. We've built a pretty solid USPSA following but need someone with a real passion for 3 gun to get that up and running. We have all of the gear, all we need is someone to run it.

I would do it again IF the lower ranges were available. I finally gave up the second time we got flooded out. I still have a plate rack out there somewhere. I imagine it’s been shot to pieces by now. Not interest in monthly , maybe a spring and fall match. I spoken to Todd a few times about getting it going again, but it never went any farther.

I think Woody got tired of doing it. It's a lot of work, and frankly shooters can be selfish pricks. Maybe a bit of what Lee posted.
I liked all the matches he did, as he's very experienced and really good at challenging even the best shooters.
Also his property use has shifted out there a little as well if, I am not mistaken, related to family business or something of that nature..

The thing I liked about the monthly 3gun was the precision shooting element. Long shots out bus windows or BMW sunroof, or roof, etc. Just never seen anything else like it.

Should also mention that True North in Oxford does host a humble 3gun match out there run by a Police Shooting league.
It is centered a lot around cop-type training scenarios. So, basic shotguns are appropriate (bring a sling for it). Not a lot of shotgun reloading which scares some off, so long tubes not neccessary.
Usually one rifle stage.

Its a little more "tactical" style for lack of a better term. But it's fun, and the guys that run it are cool guys, welcome anybody, and will give you some faith in the shooting skills of some of our local police.
