30-378 Wby

The reason being that I pulled out my 30-378 yesterday and did a 3 shot check at 450 yards. First shot I pulled a little to the left (I haven’t shot it in over a year!), second and third hit just where I wanted them. I guess it will do for hunting season. I really love that rifle. LOL!

I’m shooting 210 grain Berger VLD’s (Hunting Style) with a muzzle velocity of 2,964 fps. The reason I shoot at 450 is that I have a stand that covers a field that is approximately 450 yards across. And a lot of deer seem to come out right at that distance and it’s almost impossible to set up any closer without spooking them. For reference in the right hand corner of the orange target the small white center dot measures 1.5 inches in diameter.

There’s just something about those Weatherby Magnums…

I had one for awhile when I lived in Washington. It was the loudest thing I've ever owned and I don't think I ever once took it out hunting on any of the countless trips I made. Great gun, was just too loud and too much gun for anything I was shooting.

I have to agree, but it's a hoot to shoot! ;)

I may take it on a moose hunt next year. Some friends are talking about it. One of them shoots a 300 RUM, which is so close ballistically you could say they are kissin' cousins.

I have not shot mine in over 4-5 years. Too much gun for anything around here. Next trip to Bangsteel I will give it a try at 1000 and a mile.
