I'm sure this has been done multiple times. Oh well.

Looking to build a .300blk. This will be my first (and second) NFA item. The problem is, I have no experience with suppressors. There are way too many to choose from. Which one would you go for??

Pretty standard build, I think. The rules are:

AR Platform
8.5 to 10.5 inch barrel
Mostly subsonic ammo
Would like to keep it around $1k, maybe $1200 at the absolute most? (not counting the stamp)
Quiet but able to take a beating
Might use it on my .308 bolt gun and 5.56AR some

And GO!!

I'd highly recommend the Omega for a first suppressor. Very versatile.

ETA: since you're starting out, it's a good time to do some longer range planning and consider muzzle devices. The ASR is the platform the Omega uses. I actually have mine set up to use YHM. A real popular option right now would be to add the Dead Air Keymo adapter to it and use Dead Air brakes and flash hiders.

I have the Silencerco Specwar 7.62 on my 8.5" 300blk. I like how quiet it is when I'm using 187gr PNW ammo. I liked how the company fixed it for free when I wrecked it. I think it could be a bit shorter and the mounting system fooled me into thinking it was on the gun when it wasn't. That's how I wrecked it, but I did learn a very good lesson.

Kind of hard to go wrong with the Omega. It's extremely versatile too.

I'm a fan of Griffin's Recce 7, and recently opted for the Paladin which is a user serviceable Recce 7. I like their taper mount system the most.
 
I decided to go with a Dead Air Armament Sandman L for my 300blk/308/5.56. The ATF has only had my paperwork for about 4months so I still have a long way to go before I can give you my opinion of it. Based on my prepurchase research it seemed like a good option. It wasn’t cheap but I think it should still be in your price range.

You won't go wrong with either, I've the Ultra 7 (My 300BLK SBR avatar) & 9 (on my Grendel), and a SiCo Hybrid in NFA containment.
