Since my Sierra loading manual doesn't cover 300 BO and my Lyman manual only covers like three bullets can somebody tell me if there's overlap between projectiles that can be used that are common between .308 Win and 300 BO. I want to know if there's a good all purpose (including hunting/defense) 308 projectile that I can buy in bulk and load for whichever gun I may need it for.

There is pretty much a load for 300blk in every weight in .308.
In my experience in an AR platform , round nose bullets dont feed good, the AR /M4 likes pointy bullets when feeding .
If you stick with pointy bullets you should have no problem using the same bullets for both in any weight.

That's why Nosler does their data by diameter first, then by cartridge

I use their 125gr BTs (also Hornady 125 SSTs interchangably)

I get mine from ShootersProShop (Nosler outlet store) with the coupon from Handloader Magazine - it gives you 20% and free shipping.

However if you want large quantity .308 projectiles, Berry's manufacturing is making some but the only interesting ones are heavier ones for subsonic.

Personally I'm waiting on the Wolf Steel Case to hit the supply chain. At a quarter a piece, it will be the most affordable away to shoot blackout.

In a bolt gun the round nose will work. I love my 30 cals. Lots of the same projectiles.
I've put together a few of the Sierra 110 HP #2110 with some IMR 4895 in my bolt gun. Hehehehehe. What pumpkin?
Also had some 110gr Privi lead round nose in the mix on that. Was impressed...but I'm easily amused.

How about barrel length? The Sierra loads all seem to be for 16" barrels, which seems a little long given the round we're discussing. Does anyone take shorter length barrels into account?

Don't shoot 125gr out of anything shorter than a 10.5" and expect it to expand much. Those 110gr Barnes Tac-TX are the shizzle for short barrels.

This is why I haven't bought dies for my blackout..... Wolf will cover the plinking rounds and there's nothing I could do to improve the results of Barnes factory loads out of my 10.5" on deer.

I've got some 90 gr Hornady XTP projectiles that might work too. I was loading these for the .30 carbine as I had read they were the shizzle somewhere, but they don't feed reliably...they're really meant for a handgun...but when they did feed in the .30 carbine they were in fact the shizzle.

Good comment. I was looking at dies earlier and was trying to figure out the logic, which you condensed here. My only unresolved concern is related to the days where we might have to hand roll...I came from a place where ammo supply was threatened, taxed and uncertain so I like to have the backup plan...hence the origin on the thread where I was looking for overlap between existing .308 things I already have.

You may want to casting your own lead bullets.

I do not have a 300 Blackout but have seen that they can be loaded with a very wide range of bullet weights depending on what you want them to do. I do have several 308 Winchester and 30/06 rifles and have settled on the very vanilla 150 grain Hornady in either soft point, soft point boat tail, or full metal jacket that I can buy in bulk. Those soft point bullets have killed for me quite a few deer as dead as a bullet can kill a deer. I do not see why they would not serve you well in a 300 Blackout for general shooting. Bulk 147 grain FMJ bullets are also often available at reasonable prices.
