Does anyone load for 338 lapua? I will be getting one and will be reloading for distance. Looking at the 285 or 300gr match bullets. Lapua brass and RL33 for powder so far.

What's your load? Brass? Bullet? Plan on going for a mile :)

I've been using the 285 ELD-M, 215M primers, Lapua or Peterson brass and H1000. 86 grains seems to be what it likes which is a pretty modest velocity.

I've only had it out to 400 so far but plan to get further. The best groups have been low 5s but I have off days.

FWIW, Giruad makes a nice headspace and ogive comparator. Even the full Hornady set doesn't have a shoulder insert close to the 0.476" SAAMI. Mine is the RPR and max OAL that fits the magazine is still 0.080" jump.

Frankfort Arsenal makes a good decapper that the case will fit. I didn't trust even the universal decapping die bodies to be large enough.

21st Century makes neck mandrels in 0.0005" increments if you want to be precise with neck tension.

What rifle are you getting and what optics will you mount?

Rifle will be the RPR. My dad has 2, one in 6.5prc and the other in 556. Bith have been great shooters. Optics will be something from athlon, most likely a Ares.

I'll check my loads for you tomorrow. I only run 300 Sierras. You definitely need to get your COAL ciphered as soon as you get the rifle. I don't know what the RPR twist is.

RPR in 338LM is 1:9.375 right hand.

When you're choosing rings, don't forget that the rail already has 30 MOA built in so you don't need incline in the rings or mount but make sure you have at least 60 MOA total vertical travel adjustment in the scope. A little more is better. That should work for almost a mile.

If you want even more incline from the mount and rings, you'll need that much more adjustment in the scope.

I'm shooting a Savage M12 and I'm actually loading ammo this afternoon. 300 Berger OTM Hybrids, Lapua brass, Fed 215, with 84.6 grains of H1000. A bit slow but very accurate. My best group (3 shot) was 1/2" at 200 yards. I've had no problem grouping on a 20" X 20" plate at 1,000 yards (until the bushes grew up!).

I replaced the Accu-Lawyer target trigger with a Timney. It's very light, around 12 ounces. I also added a...

At roughly 18 pounds it's a table gun but a real fun gun to shoot. :)
