.355 rifle cartridge? Wondering

Just like women’s fashion, something new to fancy the eye and make a sale...I would bet that not one new round that comes out would ever replace a round that as been around awhile.

35 Rem (.358)
35 Winchester (?)
348 Winchester (?)
356 Winchester (?)
358 Winchester (.358)

Is this just..lemme see what happens deal? We do Alot of that. NO 9mm handgun bullet that is made for expansion can stand those velocities. We found this out with our 50 B&M. We tried 50 cal handgun bullets, they couldn't stand the velocities we pushed them.
Now...if this is just for giggles, let 'er Rip! You could easily get to 3,000 FPS. We ran 110 .357 to Over 3,000 in a handi rifle chambered in .357 Max.

Anybody have any .350 Legend experience? I have a stripped lower laying around & haven't decided what it wants to be when it grows up.

I've got ARs in .300BLK, .223/5.56 & 6.8. Thinking maybe I need a thumper now.

that thing is a .357 Max with out a rim.

OK here is the deal...... You are talking 9mm---- .355 caliber. Most all the actual rifle cartridges are .358 caliber........ that is too much of a jump from .358 down to .355. Forget about it. Depending on the barrel and its actual bore size, most of the time .355 is going to be erratic in .358 caliber barrels. Extreme spreads in velocity and pressures, and you might as well shoot a shotgun at 25 yards when it comes to accuracy. You can get away with .357 in a .358, but 90% of the time, you cannot go from .355 to .358 and expect anything, unless the .358 caliber barrel is out of spec.

Not so long ago Sam and I thought we would just see what would happen in the 358 MGP guns we have, with a 115 gr FMJ 9mm .355 bullet. Below are the results of that...........

1/10/2019
115 fmj 9mm 28.5/ WW 296 Winchester Small Rifle Primer

Velocity
Hi 2488 fps Lo 1967 fps ES 521 fps

Pressure
Hi 37400 PSI Lo 23100 fps ES 14300 PSI

Too many extremes, inconsistent, horrible accuracy at 25 yards............I am sure if we had seriously investigated this, that bullets would also be unstable and possibly be sideways at some yardage to be determined.

The other issue you might run into, depending on the brass and the .358 cartridge, is the mouth/neck area being tight enough to hold a .355 caliber bullet?

You can have a .355 caliber barrel done, a size die made to squeeze the brass down to hold a .355........ but to what end? As Billy stated, 9mm JHPs cannot handle that sort of velocity anyway? They blow all to hell!

If you want a 9mm Rifle.... Get a 16 inch AR for 9mm and forget about it.

Or, get a suitable 358 cartridge and rifle, download .357 caliber bullets, and that will work fine..................

And shoot the proper bullet for the intended purpose, right?

I do so look forward to picking your brain some day ...

Far as "brain Picking", might not be anything left.......
I'll take my chances; just you remember that "there's no such thing as a stupid question".

The only one I know of is the "One Not Asked"..................

My English teacher had a sign on his board I remember that sign till this day (1991 senior year)

he who asks a question is a fool for 5 minutes
he who doesn’t is a fool forever

35 Whelan

my new cartridge of infatuation.

And its a dandy. I had a 35 Whelen loved it, still have lots of brass for it. But it was a Remington 700, so I gave it to my son Matthew. Even carried to Africa back in the day, shot a baboon with it....... I love the .358s...... have a 358 STA, Win Custom Shop gun, carried all over the world and shot a truck load of critters with it, maybe two truck loads........Big trucks...... Had SSK build a really fantastic little Win M70 in 358 Winchester, but damn, got bored with it, had it in a corner for several years, then just sold it! Should have kept it. And, I built a big bad 358 RUM that I keep in the racks. 358 is good.............. I like 358 better than 338 and I like 338 as well........

This thing is essentially a .357 Max without a rim. We were running the .357 Max with a 200 grain Cast Performance Gas Check at Over 2,000 FPS. This out of a 16 inch gun. Another one of those New-Old Marketing invention.

I like .358 caliber rifles quite a bit. The second one I messed with was 358 STA, this was after that Remington 700 in 35 Whelen. Winchester M70 from the Custom shop in the 90s. Incredible rifles, I had two of them, both shot extremely well, one of them I carried all over the world, and in fact in 2000 actually smuggled into Mozambique. A story for another day, quite exciting! HEH HEH............ Then later I built a wonderful little FW M70 in 358 Winchester. Then a big 358 RUM. I still have the one 358 STA and the big 358 RUM. Last year my buddy Sam talked me into the 358 MGP, semi auto 6.5 up to .358 caliber. Its pretty spiffy, excellent with 180 Speers at 2350. 358s make an excellent medium caliber, I think far more versatile than 375, and while I like the 338s too, I think 358 hits a bit harder than the various 338 that are comparable. Lot of really super bullets in 358 as well......
