I will be picking up a new unloader tomorrow, a Super Blackhawk 44 mag, 10" barrel. Anyone have any favorite loads?

Appropriate powders I have on hand are 300-MP, H110, N110, AA#9, Lil'Gun, 4227, BE86, and 2400. And of course, Trail Boss for mousefart loads.

Thanks. I like 2400 in 357mag, so I may start there.

I'm not planning on hunting with it, just for fun at the range. I see where RMR has Hardcore Match bullets, not sure what the velocity rating is for those. Their regular plated are rated for 1400, so I think the HM bullets should be rated for more.

I used to have a 10-1/2" Super Blackhawk. I don't recall the load with 240 grain JHPs, but with 300 grain SWC, 17.5 grains of AA#9 had the tightest groups, 17.2 grains when I used gas checks. The gas checks reduced leading in the barrel.

I wanted to work up a good 300 grain load when I was drawn in a lottery for a moose hunt.

I've had good luck with Hornady bullets and shot some Noslers that did well. If you want something a little more cost effective I ran through 1000 rds of Montana Gold bullets in my 357 and like them.
I will have to check out the Montana Gold bullets.

I've had really good luck with the Hornady bullets in my 357mag rifle. I will definitely try them in my 44mag.

23.x grains of H110 and a 240XTP will flat knock a whitetail on his ass out of my 16" Winny 94. It's running darn close to 1800fps out of that barrel, so it's basically the same energy and same bullet as my inline ML.

You won't loose maybe 200fps with a 10" barrel, but you had better have some good grips :D

Put a good crimp on whatever you use, esp with H110. That powder likes it hot and fast to do it's thing.

Here is the one I will be loading for. I call it "my big ten inch". And, yes, I am compensating. :(

I did order dies, Amazon Prime, should arrive tomorrow. Also ordered some coated bullets from Bayou Bullets. Will also be ordering some jacketed bullets soon.

What kind of fun do you want to have? Do you just want to hit the target at reasonable ranges or are you looking for impressive noise and recoil. Both have their own special charm. Try 2400 with jacketed bullets for shock and awe. Max listed loads of Trail Boss with lead bullets will let you shoot comfortably all day long while still having a reasonable amount of power.

I have used a variety of powders with acceptable results. My every day loads are generally loaded with Unique or Trail Boss and lead or coated bullets. I keep a few hot jacketed loads around and carry them when in the woods but rarely shoot them at the range. They hurt my old wrists after a while.

Enjoy your new revolver.

My favorite range load for my 7.5” Bisley is a 210 grain Speer Gold Dot over 26 grns. of H110. That is the starting load. Max is 27 grns. Very accurate and plenty of shock and awe.

Yes, and Yes. :p

I will work up some loads with coated bullets and Trailboss, just for fun. But I do want some impressive noise and recoil loads that are accurate, also. Go big or go home. ;) I won't be hunting with it, but do want to see if I can stretch out to 100 yards, just to experiment.

I took it to the indoor range on Saturday just to try it out. Factory loads, shooting offhand. It was hitting a little high at 7 yards, so I have some scope adjustments to make. I will wait until I get to the outdoor range where I can bench rest it.

I worked up 4 different sets of test loads last night and shot them today. For now, just 1 round at each charge level so I can figure out where I want to concentrate later. All loads shot at 25 yard distance.

240gn Bayou coated bullets, BE86 powder. Charge range 10.6-11.8. The whole charge range hit very close of POA . The upper charge was within 150fps of the velocity I got with 2400, so I think I have a good inexpensive plinking load that still has a bit of a magnum feel to it.

240gn Bayou bullets, 2400 powder. Charge range 18.0-20.0. The highest charge gave a velocity of 1425fps. I was worried that I might be pushing these coated bullets a little hard, so I shot them last so that I could see if there was any fouling or leading in the barrel. I cleaned the gun when I got home and everything looked good. The 3 highest charges all hit very close to one another so I think I will go with the mid value and call it good.

240XTP, 2400, charge range 18.5-20.5. The lowest 2 charges were a little scattered on the target, but the upper charges were better. No pressure signs, so I may work up a little higher.

300XTP, 2400, charge range 15.5-17.5. All of these loads hit a little high, which is expected since the scope was zeroed with lighter bullets. But all the charges hit close to one another, and the highest 3 charges all hit within 1" of each other, so I think I have will play a little more with this charge range and find my accuracy load.

I still have some more work to do, 1 round at each charge level is not sufficient, but at least I now have it narrowed down to smaller charge ranges to explore. I also want to work up some loads with N-110 and perhaps 300-MP.

I loaded up some more of the Bayou 240gn coated bullets. 10 each, with either 11.7gn of BE86 (1305fps) or 19.8gn of 2400 (1360fps). The BE86 loads were a little faster this time, the 2400 loads a little slower. The 2400 loads seemed a little more accurate, with about 2.5" group size @ 25 yards. This is ok for plinking, and is a relatively inexpensive round to shoot.

I still want to find a good accuracy load, I think I will work a little more with the 240 and 300 XTP bullets for that.
