Who here has messed around with this round? From all accounts I've been reading, it's a pretty flat shooting round with white tail take down ballistics.

2400fps on a 124gr bullet.

I don't have any experience...yet. I ordered a barrel and BCG this past weekend.

From the guys that I have talked to have that have them love them. One said it is all he uses for deer.

I've got a lower built in the safe with intentions of building a Grendel upper tonput on it. Hopefully I'll have it finished in time for deer season

It's going to be for whacking animals and steel at range.

I played around with the 16" 300blk and decided to dump it in favor for a 18" 6.5g (keeping my 8.5" 300blk). But everything I've read up to now, and along with cheap wolf ammo available, I don't see the reason not to roll it. The ballistics much like the 6.5cm over 308 just shows how viable this round is.

It is a great little low recoil round. It ballistics are nowhere near 6.5CM usually 500 fps slower. But it will reach out ot 800 to 1000 yds. Susan (gemini26) uses it in designated marksman matches and it is great for that. Never hunted with it but it should knock a NC dear down with ease.

Ballistics
6.5 Gren 12 mil hold at 100yds (123gr AMAX still supersonic but close to transsonic)
308 13 mil hold at 1000yds (178 gr AMAX subsonic)
300 win mag 6.5 mil hold at 1000yds (210 gr AMaX supersonic)
6CM 7.6 mil hold at 1000yds (105gr Supersonic)
6.5CM ~8 mil hold at 1000yds for same bullet as 6.5 grendel (140gr AMAX supersonic)

I built 2 this year, sold one.. I kept the 18" and sold the 20".. If I can find a spot to hunt, Ive got all the stuff to load up some 123gr SST's.

But, for an accurate AR, with better ballistics/accuracy than 223, this is awesome!

I order Wolf steel 100gr ammo for $4.95 for 20 rounds.. so right at 20-21cent a round.. and the good stuff runs about $0.90 a round.

I just blast steel cased ammo for fun, until its hunting season and I believe this ar will be my go to for deer.

This is what I am seeing. Won't post what price Boyette is giving me, but a complete Upper with JP Gen 2 Bolt and a match grade sub MOA guaranteed barrel.

Why not 123gr on the 6.5g? I use 140ELDs on my 6.5cm

I built mine for $523 minus optics with a fluted heavy 18" barrel. I got a Vortex Strike eagle in a Aero P. mount for $250 from a member on here! I havent tried anything serious with grouping but with hornady custom 123gr box ammo, we were getting around .5" from a 5 shot group. Im sure i could shrink that with my bipod on it and handloads.

I really enjoy the grendel though, the wolf ammo makes it as affordable as any AR15. Its a blast to shoot.

Only beef with it, I have some 10 and 25 round mags from AR Stoner and the front lip of the mag, where the tip of the bullet is, ive had to shave down with a file on all of them to get it to feed, if not, the neck of the case will hit it. but its a minor issue, easily fixed.

I've reached out to Magpul to make Mags lol.

My build out:
JP Gen2 Bolt
TBox 18" Rifle Length Gas barrel (match grade, and fitted to the BCG)
Spikes Upper
Seekins SP3R 15"

It's going on my Bushmaster lower with the Larue MBT trigger (which I can't say enough good things about, I want an Echo trigger for my own version of the nut kicker pistol in 300blk).

Sounds like with good ammo, or wolf, you'll have a good shooter there! I still need to buy a better trigger for mine. Ive got the JP enterprise spring kit in mine, brought the milspec trigger down to 5lbs and some change.

Order the MBT from Larue and put send it when you get a chance order (saves money, 99 dollar trigger).

2.5lb 1st stage, 2lb 2nd stage. I had a single stage nicer trigger in a 24" AR I traded to Chad.

Haven't shot a G trigger, but I've looked at the complete drop ins, but for 100, can't skip the Larue.

I got two, one is a 24" Overwatch AA, the other is an old Sabre Defense 14.5 pinned upper on a lower I built. My son has used both to take deer, two over 200 yards, one at 90 with the Overwatch and with the short Grendel, he took one at 25 yards and one at 110 yards. All with factory 123 gr. SSTs. All deer were DRT (Dead right there)
