This is a new, only been to the range twice revolver. I've only put maybe 70 or 80 rounds through it with the cost and availability of ammo. Single action no problems at all. Double action firing fast seems to be no problem. Double action firing slow 1 of the 6 rounds I get a light primer strike. Just about every time and hitting it the second time still won't go off. I have checked the strain screw and it is tight. Anything else I can try? Don't really want to send it back to Smith Wesson but I will if I have to. This is with 2 different brands of ammo.

Personally, having spent that kinda money, I’d expect S&W to make it right. Sending it back is a drag but I’d do it anyway.

If you wanna tinker with it and are handy, you could remove the sideplate (if you’ve never done that, you MUST study some YT videos first and use the proper hollow-ground screwdriver). There may be some tooling residue or dried factory lube impeding the hammer’s fall. Since it’s stainless, you can hose the internals out with red Brakleen and relube it (grips off, obviously).

You said that 1 of 6 rounds is a light strike. Happen to be the same chamber that has the problem each time?
How light is the trigger pull?

I’d send them a note to open the ticket and ask them if they want it back now or if you should shoot another couple hundred rounds.

I wish I had marked the cylinder but thought of it afterwards. I don't have a trigger pull guage but double action is fairly heavy and single is light. It seems to happen when pulling the trigger real slow, staging it and letting the hammer drop. Quick pulls all the way through it seems ok. Might take me a while to shoot it more with price and ammo availability. Local pawn/gun shop wanted $99.95 per box of 50 of 44magnum.

I shoot USPSA competition with a revolver.
My first revolver I used was a S&W 646 DA, in .40 S&W. It too had issues with the occasional light strike.

It took a few things to "fix" it.
First,, I'd not recommend going to the internals on a new gun. Let S&W handle that if that's the route you choose.

(1) Tighten the mainspring tension screw. Mine would back out some. I put a piece of fishing line in the hole, added my screw, and the line acted as a nylon locking material, w/o any mods to the firearm.
(2) Ammo. Some primers are harder to ignite than others. I have found from EVERY revolver competitor I've discussed this with,, and ALL have said; "Use Federal primers."
(3) Adding an extended firing pin. A common upgrade to many S&W DA revolvers by competitors. An inexpensive upgrade, easily done by any common gunsmith who knows how to remove & re-install parts.

I did all 3 to my S&W & it cured all my light strikes.
