Continued ... from previous post. I now have the fancy 5-D router jig ($399.85) and just realized that my 80% lower does not have a completely milled magwell. It's just an oval that needs corners squared off and the grooves.

I think it's past time to stop the bleeding. Broken drill press $300, milling vice ?, old jig $100, new jig $400...I'm probably over $900 in on this receiver. Oh forgot, had to buy a small router, $139. And $140 for the lower itself..

Go ahead and laugh. I'm bailing out. Not spending any more. And no I won't sell the brand new router, jig, or anything. There's some kind of Voodoo curse on it and I will not pass it on.

My magwell looks the one pictured on the left.

um, well, i’m not gonna poke fun as i’ve had bad stuff happen on projects i was excited about and had money invested i

however, i’ve never seen an 80% that needed the mag well finished.

where did you get the lower from so if i ever venture down that path again i’ll avoid them

I’ve done a few 80% lowers and would do a hard pass on that one with the rounded mag well.

Sounds like you have all the tooling to complete a normal one though!

As discouraging as that sounds you might as well keep an eye out for one to finnish. Sounds like your all set up.

Bought it at a gun show.

since you got everything. give it one more go with a proper 80 lower

Never seen that but I’m no 80% guru. With prices dropping, I’d grab another lower and start over since you already have all the expensive stuff. Use the rounded one for a test and get down a comfortable pace/method for milling each step.

Most people I know use 5D Tactical, they have nice lowers. Be careful about stuff at the gunshows.

Make a few 80% for your friends, who can keep their mouth shut, or rent out your equipment & expertise to recoup your investment.
I would like to have a couple of 80%s, just in case, but I don't want to make the investment.

I loaned my jig out and it came back with the trigger, hammer and safety holes oblonged. Called 5D and they supposed to be sending new ones.
