8am Friday 7/3: PHA & lunch

Y’all want to start at the 100 and pistol bays instead? More room to park and spread out. Only real downside (IMHO) is having to call a cold range on the 100 to mess with targets.

We can start there and then if people want to move to 200yd, or rimfire, or even a tactical bay they’re welcome to.

15-22, ar, bolt loaded up, as well as range bag and some ammo.
Some.

4 likes, but no replies.

I’ll go ahead and say those of us that get there first will head to the 100 & pistol bays.

I got you covered on two of the rounds you missed out on. ;)

I went to S&S for lunch today and they’re closed for the 4th, just a heads up you can take it off your list. @Jeppo pick a day and we’ll all do lunch there.
They’re closed on the 3rd for the 4th? Is that what you’re saying? (Or they were also closed today for a long weekend?)
This is exactly what I went thru when Billy and Larry were coming up to HP for lunch a year ago. BBQJ’s was gonna be closed that Friday so we ended up at Big Ed’s.

Got everything staged and ready to load in the truck in the morning.
I actually have a couple more steel targets that I forgot about, all 1/2” AR500 with fresh coats of paint. Hopefully we can get one of the first 2 tactical bays after starting out on the 100yd.

Big Eds is awesome.

Got an email that the 100 and the bays are now open. Ya'll have fun. Sciatica has got me this morning, going to doc Wednesday. It comes and goes but it appears it has come to stay awhile,

On the road. Grabbing some CFA and a Gatorade for later. See y’all at the gate!!

We’re heading in. Nobody else out here waiting.

@Group23 or anybody else, send a PM or post up if you get here and need somebody to let you in.

Highlight of the day was recreating the Rambo rice paddy scene...

Luckily @Jeppo was the only one shooting so nobody was injured. :D

holy wow what a great day
I was gone for about 7.5 hours total (including drive time) and, dang, what a way to spend my day!
Shot some cool stuff, hung with some cool people, had a cool lunch.
The day - COOL.

Great day! It was awesome to get out to the range for the better part of the day, starting early to beat the heat, enjoy the freshly re-done 100yd range, blast a bunch of different guns, shoot some cool stuff like @BigWaylon’s Maxim9 (:D:D), put some new faces to old usernames, and see some members I hadn’t seen in a while.
Great bunch and we’ll have to do it again some time. Thanks everyone!:)

We need some pics. The only other one I took was our promo shot for the Bloomberg sponsored event. He was generous enough to sponsor the 25, 50 and 100 yard berms. :D

Oh yeah, I did get a shot of the gate as I arrived, but I think I texted it to @HMP and never posted it.

I think most of us can say our favorite part was the guy on the tractor. I got there ~7:45a and rode around to see if anybody was already set up. Saw a couple in a tactical bay already shooting, even though range rules say 8a to sundown.

I mentioned it to the guy running a tractor to smooth out gravel and he said they’d arrived around 7a, but hadn’t noticed them shooting. I’m assuming he drove up to see them. Next thing we know, as we’re waiting at the gate for others, is him driving just past us on the tractor. He lines the bucket up with the huge wooden sign and lifts it out of the ground and dumps it flat.

He said it had the old rules (sun-up to sun-down), and any time members were questioned about shooting early they’d mention the sign. Nevermind the rules on the website say 8am, and the paper you sign every year agreeing to the rules says 8am.

So instead of taping/painting over the one rule, he just takes the whole sign down. Sees a problem, finds a solution. :D

Thank you to all the PHA members who got us leeches in. We had a great time. Sorry about putting holes in all the berms. My targets kept moving..

Why are these three at this table being shunned? Oh, never mind, I see now.
They kept talking about something called a single action pistol? And all metal guns? Dunno...the rest of us thought it might’ve been a foreign language or something.

Who is the stud in the pink polo and camo shorts I keep seeing in pictures??? hahaha

Ok, here's what I got

We heard you tried paying for all of our meals... that would have been so nice of you and it definitely would’ve made us forget all the terrible things the other members say about you. :D

I was gonna give you credit and call it coral, or shrimp, or something other than pink. :D

cool video...

For anybody wondering, that was my test to find the most obnoxious firearm. In order it was:
7.5” 5.56 w/ riot brake
16.5” 50 Beowulf w/ tank brake
10.5” 50 Beowulf w/ Heartbreaker brake

I think the 10.5 Beo was the worse for the shooter.
But I think the 7.5” 5.56 might still be worse for anything within 20’ or so. I know I stood directly behind a shooter once, maybe 6’-8’ back, and the 5.56 was worse. Off to the side, not exactly sure.

but that 5.56 has basically zero recoil...

It was a great day at the range for sure, also putting faces to “handles” was long over due, any time I can catch up with folks I regularly hang with, known for several years but haven’t seen a while or Get to meet meet new folks, that’s a dang good day, of course shooting so many toys was an awesome bonus!!

We definitely need to see if we can arrange a member “long range” outing one of these weekends, I know the 600 yard range can be rented at “The Range Complex” in Fayetteville so that’s an option, I’d have to check on pricing but it’s normally $20 per hour per shooter.

There is also “Frontline Defense” which is further east for members out that way, I’ve shot there once at 500 yards, they have a 1000 yard range but it is reserved for members only, the normal rates are $25 an hour if I recall.

Personally I think it would be epic if we could arrange a Bang Steel “Open Range” day, normally those run $80 a person and Dan & Forrest will assist with getting a dope card setup and they’ll call shots for you all the way out to a mile PROVIDED you can demonstrate you have the ability to safely shoot that distance and the gear to do it, I’m spitballing this as of now because I don’t know if this is so,etching they’d be interested in even hosting, but if we have enough interest I’ll be happy to move forward with it and see if we can make it happen.

All of these places have range steel setup for use.

I’m sure a “long range” setup would be limited to 10ish people no matter where we go, but again if there is enough interest I’ll be happy to see what can be arranged.
