9mm fired out of battery, that woke me up

I don't think that this was due to firing out of battery because it blew out in the case head, where the case web is thickest and strongest.
Out of battery firing is rare and almost always due to a malfunction of the gun. When it does happen, the blowout is farther forward in the section just ahead of the web where the case is thin. It' like a case that bulges or bursts due to lack of head support...like when Dremel Dan does one of his double throwdown throat jobs.

Blowing in the web area like that almost always points to grossly excessive pressure...as in a double charged case. While it's possible that the case was bad, it's unlikely.

If this happened with factory ammunition, it's theirs to make right. If it was done with reloads or hand loads, well...it was the crank pullin' the handle on the press.
