I picked two Gen 5 Glock 17 frames a few months ago that I'd like to cut down to 19 length.

Between buying them and now, I also bought, finished, and grip chopped some P80 G17 lowers. I chopped these using the 2A3D grip chopping jig for the P80 and I'm very happy with the outcome.

I realize most people freehand their G17 chops, but I was wondering is anyone is aware of a similar jig for OEM frames  or someone in RTP that can cleanly chop them.

Also, I realize I could ship them off to have them professionally chopped, but I don't have the patience these days to deal with shipping hanguns.

Does the frame lay flat when it's stripped? Wonder if you could use a chop saw or push it thru a scroll saw.

That was actually how I started the P80s -- put them in a jig and used a handsaw to remove most of the material and then used a file to remove the rest.

The more I think about it the more I think I can do the Gen5s without a jig. I'll have to be careful, but I think I can line the cut point up in the vice and effectively use it as a jig.

I was thinking just lay it flat and push it thru a scroll saw. That would only work if the frame actually lays flat though.

Using vise jaws as a guide sounds like a pretty good idea too.

Wrap a piece tape around the grips and line it up as perfectly as you can with the bottom edge being your cut guide line. Leave a tiny bit extra so you can even out any minor digressions with a sand block.

I cut irregular shaped items all the time and have yet to be disappointed.

A miter saw will have a bunch of blowout unless you’re using an OSB blade
