A Serious Handgunner Must Own

I guess you need something to make all your other guns look good?

No, those Glocks are purty..and serious!

So much for reliability. :D

The second one is in case the first gets locked up in evidence or kicked out of my hand during a karate fight/jumping onto the roof of moving trains.

Clint Smith said..a man that can draw a model 10 and put A round on a paper plate 10 straight times at 10 yards in under 2 seconds, is a good man to know.
I like Clint but I don't personally know anybody that can reload a model 10 in less than 2 seconds much less draw it and fire 10 shots. I think I can do everything I could do with one of those antique revolvers faster and more accurately with a Glock 43. Reloads make the choice a no brainer for me.

I either miswrote or you misunderstood. Either way, it's 10 single presentations, each in 2 seconds.

I don't have any wheel guns... nothing wrong with them, just dont have any, but ain't nothing wrong with a Glock....:D

8 shots from a draw on an 8" polish plate rack. 8 shots in 3.25 sec. with 8 separate sight pictures... That Glock blistered that rack.. Hard pressed to find someone who can beat that with a wheel gun!

It's like I said originally...A shot on a plate in under 2 seconds. Of course I assumed everyone knew I meant from concealment, because that's the way we have to carry in S.C. If a man can do that 10 straight times, he will have my respect as a good man with a gun. He will be welcome here to shoot with us anytime. And that means with any handgun. An old Model 10 just ups the ante slightly. We will have this available in October for those of you who want to "breeze" through it. Oh. and no speed reloads will be necessary, just like real life.

Apologies, I misunderstood.

I was thinking along the lines of the "Bill's drill" where you draw and shoot 6 shots on target with the goal of two seconds or less. I was actually going to go to the range and see how quickly I could put 10 shots (incl reload) on a paper plate with a Glock 43...I am sure it wont be 2 seconds but I am curious now.

Folks, I never wrote the word collect or collector. I said own. Own just for the sake of having. Own to possess. To share, to enjoy. The only things I collect for the sake of collecting is gray hairs.

Still, no. Sometimes I wish I did, but even if I did, my opportunities to shoot are few and far between. But if I could have 10 of any, they would still all be Glock 17s or 19s.

I'd say it was the shooter not the gun. That Miculek guy seems to shoot revolvers Ok.

I won't get into specifics, but-

1) 1911, because Murica
2) a double action centerfire revolver
3) a single action centerfire revolver.
4) a quality .22lr semi auto
5) a quality .22lr revolver, either s/a or d/a. My preference is for single actions
6) a duty size semi auto
7) an EDC compact semi auto, 9mm or larger
8) an subcompact semi auto for deeper concealment. 9mm for me, but would concede .380 for those that want a little bitty gun.
note- #2 is an acceptable substitute for #s 6 & 7

In the nice to have category (once the above are covered & if you can swing it), the Browning Hi-Power, CZ75, CZ97, Sig P220 & an older S&W revolver (I'd love a 6" or 8 3/8" M57) are all on that list. I leave Colt out because their d/a revolvers have gotten outrageous & for what new SAAs run, I'd just spend a bit more & get a Freedom Arms model 83.

I've got my #s 1, 2 & 5-8 covered, along with a pretty good number of #3 (mostly .41Mags) & a couple of #4. Nothing off the nice to have list (yet), but I've got a pretty bad single action revolver & levergun habit. If I had the moolah to be a collector, I'd have that nice to have list knocked out in no time. In the meantime, I'm quite content with my humble little collection.

All I have other than Glocks are a Taurus Ultralite 38, a Para 1911, and a old 303 British rifle that needs some work, lol.
All Glocks, all the time, haha.
In all seriousness, I would love to own some of those on Billy's list.

I love how everyone worships the Python but no love for the Anaconda?

It shoots a 'real' magnum cartridge.

My personal ā€œwantsā€ list a person should aspire to is pretty simple.

  1. A full-size semiauto in a self defense caliber
  2. A compact semiauto in the same caliber
  3. A full-size revolver in a self defense caliber
  4. A compact revolver in a self defense caliber
  5. A .22lr semiauto
  6. A .22lr revolver
Anybody serious about handguns should start with these six due to the sheer practicality here.
