A Serious Handgunner Must Own

Edit: A Serious handgunner MUST have....serious belts and holsters. Why is it that every OC'er I come across is sporting the latest in Uncle Mike's "1-size-fits-none" nylon pouch?
Cause it's a "thing". ;)

If the thread title was “want to own” instead of “must own” you’d see a much different list from me!!
I agree 100% with this most gun owners even “Serious Handgunners” don’t have $10,000-$15,000 to devote to items on the safe. Those who do are fortunate but not the norm.

What exactly defines every "Serious Handgunner"? I think it is subjective. Life is about choices!! I have STI 2011s, an SVI Infinity, an Intratec CAT .45, a Ruger .22-45, and a .45 1911 built on a Chip McCormick frame. My list is no more or less of an indicator of a serious handgunner than any other list here.

So true.

Some of the most serious and best handgunners I know only own like two pistols. They spent their money on ammo and their time on practice.

Conversely, some of the worst I know have epic collections. Theres a difference between collectors and shooters. Sometimes its both.

5. Smith & Wesson N frame
6. All the Glocks you can get your hands on
A man who has reached Nirvana. His quest is over. Except for his never ending search for the next Glock. He is my Pard for real and I love it when he says...Hey, I gotta new Glock, wanna see it!?

Coupla things I know, a man that makes fun of his shooting, is usually a pretty damn good shooter. The other, in all my shooting of 50+ years, I have known personally 2 men that could shoot better than their guns. I can't wait for October!!!!!!

I am not sure that is the case if you are referring to me. I would say I am not bad maybe good but far from “damn good”.

I wish I could make it in Oct but my 18th anniversary is the 15th and as much as I like you guys I think I am going to opt to spend the time with my wife. LOL ;)

Ha! Its all good! But, it is subjective..
Chris Tilley is a SERIOUS handgunner... Probably the most serious civilian handgunner in the Carolinas, but his must haves probably do not align with anything on our lists...

Form follows function.

It all depends on your definition of serious. Some guys think it is all about competitions. Some guys train for defense. Different tools for different jobs. It's all good. Whatever makes you happy.

"Different tools for different jobs" = Form follows function.

Pure shooting is shooting... Defense/tactics is solving problems before, during and after a/the shooting event.

A Serious Handgunner Must Own:

Name your top 10
1. Colt SAA

Maybe I misunderstood?? It has happened before... lol!!

Is this a statement?, a consensus?,an opinion?, a wish list?, a list of what has worked for you? Help me out if I'm missing something..

I have never seen a 5 word title and a listing of favorite firearms so misunderstood by folks. Hashknife is not the only one. This turned out, instead of a happy little wish list of OWNERSHIP to be about combat tactical shooting. In the mid 80's I was regional IPSC Big Dog. So long ago I can barely remember some of it. People that try to read too much into a silly little question need more to do. Just roll with it and have fun . CZfool68 said it all, it's just conversation. Everything doesn't have to be rappelling out a window with your hair on fire firing suppressed full auto. If you don't have wants of future firearms that you might actually shoot one day, you might want to rethink this place CarolinaFIREARMS Forum. People who said they have NO guns had a list of their likes. This is what I was after. An ownership list of things you would aspire to have one day. Really, this can't be this hard. Thanks to everyone that played along. I saw lotsa stuff on lists that I covet. I hope you all get your lists complete.

Hmmph.
I didn’t get any of that from anybody’s posts. I guess I was confused as well, and thought Hashknife made good points. Maybe “post your ten dream handguns” would have made it simple for us simpletons.

If this is a want list, well then:

1. Infinity 5.4” limited major gun
2. Infinity 6” 3gun pistol in 9mm
3. Infinity open gun in .38sc
4. Custom Pinnacle S&W 986
5. Pinnacle 686
6. CZC Shadow 2 Carry optics gun 9mm
7. CZC Shadow 2 production gun
8. HK P7
9. Vintage Browning hipower
10. Vintage Colt 1911

Mmmhmmm. That list would make me one happy man!!

Now this fella knows how to play!!!!

Must own?

#1 - A good quailty double action revolver chambered in .357 Mag with a 4"-6" barrel.

#2 - A good quality .22LR semi auto similar to the Ruger Mk series.

#3 - A 5-shot .38 SPL snub nose (J-frame S&W or equivalent) 2"-3" barrel.

#4 - A Glock 19 or equivalent semi auto 9mm.

#5 - A single action revolver chamered in .357 Mag or larger round, 4"+ barrel with adjustable sights or optional optic mount.

#6 - A small yet easily concealable semi auto pistol chambered in 9mm through .45ACP.

#7 - A good quality single action 1911 style pistol chambered in 9mm through .45ACP.

If you can't get it done with the ones listed above you have a software, not a hardware problem.

A slightly different take. Assume that each one of these things is the best that you can reasonably afford:

1) Your EDC
2) Backup for your EDC
3) 1911
4) .357 magnum revolver
5) suppressor compatible .22 auto
6) .22 revolver
7) a "treated myself" gun (Python, Luger et. al)
8) Icebreaker gun. This is the thing that you take to the range and everyone wants to shoot it because they have heard about it and don't own one/never seen one in person. This could be the same as #7, but not necessarily. Chiappa Rhino, Desert Eagle, S&W 500, Coonan .357, etc.

That's it. Instead of spending money on 9 & 10, you continuously upgrade 1-6 and/or add another 7 or 8.

Tough job to make a list for me because I just plain like guns. All of them. I can list the guns that I am still coveting. It's pretty short.
1. S&W Registered Magnum- any configuration but as long as I'm wishing a 3 1/2" barrel Nickel
2. Colt Python- again not picky but a 6" Blue would be my first choice
3. A factory engraved S&W M19

Not to say I wouldn't buy any other handguns than these. Just these are the ones that I would really consider myself fortunate to own one day.

If I were making a list for a newbie wanting to know what he should buy...
1. S&W Model 19 2 1/2"
2. S&W Model 10 4"
3. S&W J-Frame 1 7/8"
4. S&W Model 27 or 28 6"
5. 1911 Framed Pistol
6. Sig P220
That's it- everything shoots 38 special/357 Mag or 45 ACP ammo. Everything is fun and reliable to shoot. And every self-defense need is covered. There are definitely better guns out there for self-defense. But any person with a little practice could adequately defend their life and property with this collection and enjoy practicing to be able to do that.
