Abandoned property, legal issues

Tractor Supply

Enough said... Last time I was there to pick up a case of grease cartridges that were on sale and while walking out I saw bottles of StaBil on an end cap. The price advertised was 2 for $7, good deal. I get to the register and they rang up as $7something each. Told the baby at the register what they were marked. She corrected it and I walked out and went home.

Upon putting the bottles away I pulled out the register slip. Yup, 2 for $7 and removed one for -$7, basically zero.

I can't tell you the number of times that I have been given to much cash back at fast food restaurants in the last two years. I gave this one girl a twenty and my bill was $12 and change. So she gave me $12 in change. I told her she gave me the wrong change. So she gave me my 20.00 back and 12.00 change. So I explained again that she still gave me to much money back and she got pissed off gave me my food and told me she couldn't do anything else I would have to talk to her manager and he was currently on break. Yeah sorry I am not waiting for your manager to come back to explain it to some on that is competent. Yet these people want 15.00 an hour.

Had some extensive work done at a local tire shop on time almost 400 dollars so I payed with a credit card went home and the lady had only charged me 40 dollars so I call and talk to the owner. He thanked me and said that the lady that checked me out was the account manager. I thought man you are in deep s***

I'm in the "meh, mistakes happen" mindset. I'm not going to get worked up over someone making a mistake that goes against me, and I'm not going to look to take advantage of a mistake in my favor. All I ask is a timely resolution.

Send them a bill for storage of goods as a warehouse service, with an increase of 10% per month inconvenience fee.

They'll either be right over to pick it up, or let you keep it.

That could prove interesting from a legal perspective. Undoubtedly they would refuse to agree to that, but similarly there is no agreement for you to take possession of or pay for the material they wrongfully depositied.

Stopped off at an ATM at a bank near my oldest brother's house one weekend while I was visiting.

As usual, I check the money to be sure I got what I asked for from the machine. Flipping through all the $20 bills, I passed a $50 bill. WTF? Backed up...yep, that's a $50 bill! Checked the rest out and they were all $20 bills.

Parked the car and went into the bank. Lady in the lobby asked if she could help me. I said "Sure! You might want to secure the drive-up ATM and check all the money in it. I just withdrew $400 from the drive-up ATM and it gave me a wrong bill. I'd like to see if I could exchange the other 19 $20 bills into $50 bills to match!"

That got their attention!

They exchanged my $50 for a $20 and secured that ATM so they could pull the money and check it. Lady was surprised that I came in. I told her that I'm sure every penny is accounted for in any bank and it wouldn't be right for me to place somebody's job here in jeopardy over something silly like this...I make more than enough, I don't need to be dishonest.

As it was, she said that there was a slight imbalance in the books. I don't remember the amount she quoted me, but that $30 difference actually went a long way towards balancing it.

In all the years I've used ATMs, that has been the ONLY time I ever got an incorrect amount on a withdrawal.

They say that ATM's won't dispense counterfeit bills either. I had purchased an item for a friends husband for his birthday and she went by the ATM and got the $400 out to pay me. I sent it to the bank with my son to deposit and the teller found 2 counterfeit $20's. Guess who got stuck without $40?

Yeah...I dunno about ATMs and fake money, but once you take possession of the bill, you're SOL. There is no way to be reimbursed.

Best you can do is turn it in so that the Secret Service can add that data point to their efforts to curb counterfeiting.

Sucks, I know. Fortunately, I've never run across one and haven't had that problem.

When actually handling money during cash transactions, people need to pay attention to the feel of the bills, as well as the looks. If you come across a suspicious bill, refuse it right then and there.

Progress! I finally got a call back....they assure me someone will pick the stuff up "in a couple days" so long as there is "room on the truck"....

I could tell them politely. If it's not moved in 3 days, I'm putting a "free" sign on it.

Or charge them for storage fees. At my Dad's company we had 36" diameter sona tubes (use for concrete forming) come in and then another shipment. These tubes take up a lot of space. Gave them 2 weeks and kept getting the ring around. I sent in a invoice for storage fees in the AM. Around Noon I heard a flat bed truck hauling ass down or street. Sure enough it was them to pick their stuff up.

We have a customer like that too. Amazing how fast they can pickup when you send them an invoice for the goods.

damn that sucks, was really looking forward to the "wooden swords for everybody" thread

At the very minim you got to charge them rent on the driveway space. By now that rent has eat up all the profit. A few more days it's eat up full retail. Next they owe you monies....
