My wife read me an article earlier that said the ABC board will vote soon on opening ABC stores on Sundays and allowing 4 drinks at a time in bars instead of 1. I couldn't care less about either item, in fact it'll just lead to more drunks and drunk driving probably.

You don't think that drunks don't already plan for Sunday closing and stock up on Saturday? I doubt it would make any difference at all to the amount of drunk drivers on Sunday.

Me neither, just covering all my bases lol!

First, the gubment has no bidness running alcohol sales. "Here's your f*&cking tax, now piss off."

Second, if this comes to fruition, the wording is that they can open on Sunday if they *want* to. You really think the lazy slobs *want* to go to work on Sunday?

Third, if this comes to fruition, it won't do anything to drunk driving rates or alcoholism rates. Just like every state that got constitutional concealed carry it didn't lead to "blood flowing in the streets" as predicted. How many other states allow liquor sales on Sundays...and out of convenience stores, grocery stores, drug stores to boot.

Just do away with ABC stores. They serve no necessary purpose.

I disagree completely on this.

I lived in Florida where a liquor store is on every corner and that has a effect on people. I can not put my finger on the effect but it seems that locations with unregulated liquor has a stronger "hood" aspect.

Reactions: Me.
SC has private liquor stores, but when I lived there last, about 30 years ago, you couldn't buy a drink after midnight Saturday night.
I expect some things have changed since I left.

I admit that the places that I have lived had other rules, like not within 1000 ft. of a church or school. I can’t see how a liquor only store would possibly compete with Walmart or the chain grocery stores. No ABC board also opens up the possibility of internet buying.

The entire state of Florida is a "hood"?

I mean, Florida is weird and all, but I doubt it's statewide.

Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Delaware all allow private stores to sell liquor. I don't think those states are all dumps. Hawaii too, come to think of it.

Maybe you shouldn't have lived in that hood in Florida.

Private sales have no hood effect in liquor sales.
Untaxed liquor sales sure dont have that affect and that's a private sale.

Unless you can show me a hillbilly/country hood that's made that way by private sales. That statement about hood effect is just absurd!!!!!!!!!

The state I where i grew up had private sales as well. Sure you had (hoods) there Same as every state. I think private sales here would de and be the same as other states. Do absolutely nothing different but take the money from .Gov from the bribery to obtain ABC license.

About the only good thing living in a "Closed" ABC state does is keep the price down. Bad thing is it limits what you can buy. That, and you have to say "Hi" to the preacher when yous see him at the liqueur store...

Everybody knows Baptists don't know each other when they meet in the liquor store.

There is NC House sponsored bill now to break the monopoly that the county ABC boards (who are totally corrupt) have now on the sale of liquor. It has a snow balls chance in hell of becoming law but thats what they said about POP THE CAP. The pitty of it all is that some ass hat has total control (read pockets getting stuffed) over what the stores carry. I dont give a rats arse about the BSC and the bible belters. The big liquor stores in the suburbs of Chicago are AWESOME. Think Home Depot except substitute paint and lumber with liquor and liquor. The biggest liquor store in Wake Co. gets one delivery a month and the mgr has no control over what he gets. Thats just effed up.

The restaurant next door to Durham Distillery is not allowed to purchase from them. They have to do the special order process thru ABC. That’s not how free markets are supposed to work.

What's the difference between Baptists and Presbyterians?

Presbyterians say hi to each other in the ABC store.

Not necessary!? How do you expect politicians to pay off supporters if they can't reward them with an ABC franchise? Betcha didn't think of that, did you? Sheesh...
