I have a 50 cal. TC ProHunter muzzleloader shooting 45 caliber 250 grain Hornady XTP's in sabots.
Is anyone using AC 5744 powder with this setup? If so what is the Min. and Max grains you use/like?
I am thinking 38-45 range.
Any input will be appreciated.
I have used IMR 4198 I think in the 40s to mid 50s some years ago (I have the exact loads in my notes) with pretty good results. Thought I'd try the 5744 as someone (can't remember who) said they had great results with it.
Thanks!

Don't want to be patronizing or a party pooper, but this seems like a really bad idea!
You should never use smokeless powder in a muzzle loader, only black powder or substitutes.
Black Powder guns are not built for smokeless powder.
sooner or later you're gonna have a Kaboom !
You're gambling with your life here.

His (OP) is not:

"The Thompson breechplug is insufficient for Savage loads, and the barrel "may be heat treated," or may not be. Thompson/Center has done no testing with smokeless powders, and they warn VERY loudly against its use."

I'm shooting :p grains of 5744 in my SAVAGE MODEL 10 ML-II. Sorry, but after reading the above comments I'm not going to be part of you blowing yourself up.
