Vendors are blowing out the Magpul foliage stuff so I ended up buying several AK pistol grips to play around with.
I picked up two colors to mix; "Racing Red" and "Daffodil Yellow". Here's the results:

Left to right:
Foliage grip with 4 caps of Daffodil Yellow
Foliage with 4 caps of Daffodil and 4 caps of Racing red
Sand AR-15 SL grip, 8 caps of Daffodil and 4 of Racing Red
Foliage in same batch as AR-15 grip; 8 caps of Daffodil and 4 of Racing Red

The pictures don't show the complexity of the colors, but the second from left could work as plum, and the last on the right pretty closely matches the Bulgarian brown commercial mags.

The green is interesting; foliage is this bland grey/green baby food color, but with the Daffodil wash it ends up somewhere between OD and avocado.

I'm eventually going to try some different dyes, because I have several more grips left.
 
Cool results, thanks for sharing! Any Magpul vendors have these on clearance currently? I wouldn't mind playing around with a few grips.

Woof. $32 dollars to ship some grips and mags to me. WTF! What am I missing here? I even edited my cart to bring it down to five grips and three mags, and it's still $20+ for shipping. That's insane.
 
From Schuyler? How many are you ordering? It was like $18 for a complete AR furniture kit, 6 grips, a mag and an ACL-S stock for me. Not a great shipping price, but considering what I paid for the stuff, it didn't bother me too much.
 
Originally, I had 10 grips, five mags, and an MOE stock. Trimmed the cart down to five grips and three mags, and it's still $20.75 to ship. The prices are awesome but out of principle I don't think I can stomach the s/h!
 
Tried some more foliage stuff. This time a ton of yellow and one capful of the red.

I'm thinking about dying my SU16 stock, any experience? I couldn't find much online except people dying their pistol frames. Feels like the same polymer though.

Tried one of these rubberized M Lok panels.

All it did was slightly brighten the color. Whatever this material is, it doesn't take dye very well.

Also tried a pair of whit handled trauma shears I got in a bulk pack with other colors. Those went nowhere, just look like they've spent 30 years in a smoker's house.

Yep, everything behind the hinge.

I've got a long steel food tray I used to do stuff that wouldn't fit in a paint can. When I did mine, I made the water hot, added the dye and then dunked the parts after I took it off the heat. I wrapped the whole thing in towels for insulation and got nice results.

Have you tried any "Bakelite" or plum colors yet? If not please do, cayse I'd love a plum or Bakelite grip for my AMD!!!!

You'd probably have to start from FDE to go bakelite. I'm still hoping Magpul might release some Sand furniture to make things easier.
As of right now I think you can only get Sand mags.
 
I am surprised that Magpul ships these with a flat head screw. PITA

Some more results. Have some other more unorthdox colors to try (tropical teal, graphite, sandstone), just waiting on the grips to get here. Kvar has them for $2 and change.

These pictures aren't great. Coral and Scarlet aren't the same but look the same in the pics. Rose quartz is actually a light plum. Brown is brown.
It seems there's not a lot else I can do with foliage as a base color. It would be nice if Magpul would release some sand AK stuff.

That's "sand", but right now all they have in that color for the AK is mags.

Got these G10 grips for my CZ-75 for $12, but the color was meh.
