Air fryer steak

How was the steak in the air fryer? My wife picked up some flank steak at Costco today and was going to try some new recipe in it. I offered to grill as always but she said she would like to try the air fryer.

I love it myself. I can't cook steak on a grill. It just never turns out right for me. But this is juicy flavorful steak seared on the outside perfect inside.

"Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness."
I have my doubts it reached the minimum safe internal temperature, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It's cool. It ain't a bat or anything.

I expected him to get flamed for not using charcoal, not for eating it medium rare (as God intended)...... it's like I don't even know ya'll. WTH?
I was expecting the same but to my delight found encouragement to try steak in the air fryer!

I too can’t grill steak. Heck, I can’t really cook period; I tell my wife that’s why I married her. :D

Looks like I’m have air fried steak tomorrow night... and many more nights on a regular basis if it comes out as good as @Cowboy ’s looks.

Nah, that's a minimum 125-130* internal right there. I wouldn't do burger that rare (the microbial hazard is due to the surface bacteria being ground into the meat, on solid cuts like steak any microorganisms on the surface are killed off right away) but it's perfect for steak.

If I take steak, beef loin, or back straps off the grill at much over 125* internal, my daughter gripes that it's overcooked.

@Cowboy what is your method of air frying? We usually do a pan with lots of butter and I’ve got the timing down. The pan let’s you adjust the heat at different stages. We tried the air fryer and it just didn’t taste right, especially the fat on the steak.

I threw it in a ziplock baggie with some Worcester and balsamic vinaigrette for a few hours. Took it out made sure to get the steak as dry as possible with some paper towels. Then seasoned to Montreal steak seasoning. Preheated the fryer to 390 and put it in for 12-13 minutes. It was a little bigger than most steaks I eat so it took the full time. I like my steaks more medium well but this one tasted pretty dang good.

Got to admit, I never would have thought about cooking steak in the air fryer. I like a cast iron skillet on the grill because I can get it super hot without starting a fire on the grill or smoking up the house. Speaking of, does this method make a lot of smoke?

And all of you who said that steak was undercooked just lost your man cards.

Yes it smokes a good bit so I normally take it outside to the porch for steak, wings. Most other things are perfectly fine.

To be fair and to compare apples to apples, there are 2 styles of air fryers.
(see pics below)

#1 has racks, like an oven, where the air circulates around the item with a fan. It has a heating element on the top that browns the item as well.

#2 is more like a crock pot where the item is placed in a basket and cooked without oil. I cannot say if it has a browning element on the top.
I use one like #1 which I find is very easy to use. You can check doneness thru the glass

This is mine zero oil.

I've got both styles, the basket type I find works better for stuff like fries, breaded things, etc and the rack style for cooking things like steaks, chicken breasts, sliced pork loin, etc.

Next time you see some decent cuts of beef and feel like experimenting dice it up into inch sized cubes, put in a bag with some butter milk and whatever steak marinade you like. The butter milk will help start breaking down the steak and make it more tender and let the marinade soak through better. Little steak nuggets are awesome!

It's also great to chunk up chicken breasts like that, put them in a bag with enough buttermilk ranch dressing to cover them, a couple shots of hot sauce and let them marinade. Get a pack of thin sliced bacon, cut the pieces in half and wrap the chicken in bacon and push some toothpicks you've had soaking in water through it to hold it together. Then toss in the air fryer.

Only steak at the store were some great looking T bones. So I grabbed one for 7.00.

Found this sauce on sale and man it's good stuff.
I went up 77 today. I saw the cow that hunk came off. The band aid was falling off.

For the sake of god. He taught man to build a fire. COOK THE MEAT DONE

My wife uses a Ninja. I was amazed at how good it works. Haven’t tried steak, but chicken and hamburgers are wonderful on it.

Let’s me start by saying, beyond pasta I cannot cook! So when @Cowboy said you can make a good steak in an air fryer, I got excited.

My wife has every kitchen gadget out there, including an air fryer of course. I got a couple NY strips tonight and finally tried this out.

It turned out great! Threw on some steak seasoning and fresh ground pepper, let it sit for about 15min, and cooked it how I like it (confirmed internal temp).

I will certainly be eating steak more often and I may even get the wife to enjoy steak (not a big red meat fan), because she liked it too!

Thats cool! Something to try in the wife's air fryer:)

Oh and boys.... If it doesn't moo and try to run off the plate when you cut it. You have ruined a perfectly good cut:rolleyes:

My daddy believed in well done, the end. It took until i moved out at 17 for someone to show me the path.

Get the grill good and hot. Seer for two minutes on each side. Let rest for 5-10 minutes. Perfection:D

I'm specifically a medium rare man myself. I was also taught that if it takes more than pepper and some garlic salt to season, your doing it wrong:eek:

But i have been known to use the montreal seasoning as well as different marinades just for the fun of it on cheap cuts:cool:
