I finally bought myself one. HD had the Project pro on sale for $204. I'm no stranger to spraying, I have an HVLP but it only has a quart cup. I can spray latex with it but I have to thin it pretty thin to get decent results.

I built a 12x16 shed last year, and finally painted it today. It took me longer to prep and clean up than it did to paint the shed.

Greco sprayer worked like a champ. I'd been looking at the HF model for $170 I believe, glad I did the Greco, for parts if nothing else.

I'm considering shooting the front porch, it's about time.

Great timing! I'm looking to pick up a sprayer but getting the specs can be tricky.

What is the minimum width can that model go to? I'm hoping 2-3"...

Sorry for the silly question, but I can't tell. Did you buy the Project pro AND the Greco? I have the greco, but was wondering about comparisons...Thanks

Sorry... yeah... stupid question. I confused myself! I agree. The HF one is parts limited. You can't get different tips (that I've seen), or any other accessory parts. As a matter of fact, I bought the HF one first. It didn't work. Wouldn't build pressure. Took it back and got a second one. This one apparently had a bad pressure switch, and wouldnt come on when pressure dropped, no matter how i adjusted it. Back again...2 trips and no sprayer, so I gave up on the HF sprayer. The Greco was not on sale, but went that way anyway. I was wondering if you had bought both, as i was still interested in the comparison. Thanks

I painted my 2 story home in 2008 with a Graco Magnum X5 sprayer, it works for interior and exterior coatings. I used a masking tape paper dispenser to speed up the prep, yes you can spray a wall faster then the time you take to prepare it.

Thank you for the feed back on the HF version. I'm glad I never purchased that model based on your feedback. I've been looking at it literally for years.

However, I think the results are generally better than cutting and rolling.

I freaking hate painting much more than I hate cleaning up a paint gun. I hate painting almost as much as I hate plumbing.

I don't mind painting, I used to paint cars when I was a young pup. Same technique for using a can of spray paint and with a sprayer machine, you move your hand before you press the trigger (or tip on can) and then release but keep your hand moving parallel to the surface. No runs, drips or errors. :)

Wish I had known that advise before I painted my 5x8 trailer and some odd tools/lawn equipment. I’ll use that technique on the next project.

Anyone used one to apply stain on a deck? I haven’t looked around any to see if that would work but have a couple quotes for staining a large deck up in the mountains and am now considering doing it myself. The house also needs to be painted in the next year or so so I wouldn’t mind buying a nice sprayer and doing both. Also would be good to get my son involved.

The models for exterior paint and stains can apply water based, oil and hybrid product.

Check Mfgr accessorys, most will have different tips for the gun to shoot thin stains.

Like @Mirac stated, it should shoot it fine but you will have to buy a smaller tip and get your flow control right.
This is a chart for tip size.

The Graco line uses a DC motor, don't worry when you hear it stop after it pressurizes the pump. It only runs when it needs to.

Just finished spraying the fence, so much quicker and easier than brushing. 2 coats in about an hour.

Those asking about stain, what i use on my fence is a water/acrylic stain by Olympic, crap on horizontal surfaces, but holds up well on the verticals, and it cleans up with soap and water.

I just sprayed the front porch, yeah... I need a smaller tip than the stock tip. I've got some over spray that I"m going to have to deal with. Painted my feet pretty good too. LOL.

ok, I have a pros and cons list going in my head. Overall, I would buy it again, it sure does make the actual painting part faster. Even on the lowest setting that thing will lay down some paint.

Needed extras:
Smaller tip (fan size)
Extension tube is almost a must
Spray shield may be useful as well.

Nit picky cons:
Gun keeps pinching my hand.
Hose is too stiff
I have to take the strainer off to reach the bottom of a gallon of paint or it looses prime.
a wrench that stores with the unit would be cool.

Pros:
It will flat lay down some product
pretty easy clean up
if you follow the directions it primes fairly easy

Just my $ 0.02

Yeah, for decks. I can see that would keep you from bending over all the time.
or painting/staining your feet....

It may even keep you from breaking out a ladder

Picked up a 211 spray tip (2" wide, .011" opening). Set it up, primed and went to work. Had to adjust the flow but found a setting that worked. Had to stop due to expected rain in 3hrs.

1 gal = one side of the fence (72')
2 sections every 15min (1 coat) compared to 1 every 30min with brush/roller (2 coats).
1hr painting with 45min clean up.

Had a few sags that were easy to remove with a brush. From this first side I estimate 4gal of paint will be needed.

I like that you can turn the tip around and blow out any clogs (had 1 every section). You will get them.

I don't remember if its that model, but I bought one and used it a couple times and then it wouldn't turn on. Figured we had blown a fuse in it, but there isn't one that's replaceable. Decided to take it apart, and sure enough, there's the bad fuse. Decided to relocate the fuse to the outside. Now if it pops I can replace with no trouble.

I used one to stain our backyard fence. I also used one to paint some 30yd refuse cans when I worked with @Chdamn and @DCGallim.

Airless sprayers are the shiznit.
