Am I doing AR properly?

The red dot didn't have enough zooms so I bought a scope for it to give my red dot 4-14 zooms.
I'm concerned the front flip cap won't survive the first shot though. Has anyone else tried this set up on their pistol, for more zoomage?

You should add a tactical light to the rear of the red dot. It would enhance the illumination along the sight line.

I have the same setup! If you just get a hole punch you can make a nice spot in the lens cap for the bullet to pass through. Simple fix. I am getting 12" groups at 50 yards with my special handloads. It is awesome.
