Amazon shipping broken junk again. Sigh.

Thought I would score a few bucks off with an open box item, sold by amazon claiming that the box was damaged but the product was 100% fine.

They shipped it from their warehouse in AZ somewhere.

Arrived today, and the box is scuffed up (it's going in the recycle bin so no biggie) but also... the product inside is scratched and one of the parts is broken so it's useless.

Not sure how this saves them money having to deal with a return, repack it, ship it across the country to me.... only to have to take it back again and ship and deal with it at least a second time. Will they resell it to the next guy and hope they don't actually try to use it? Is that the goal, just hope it ends up in the landfill after someone buys it and doesn't use it and tosses it in the next 'new year new me' purge?

Stupid amazon.

Mark the box as "scratched and broken" with a sharpie on multiple places, so the next person knows it's damaged before they even open it.

I got a bluray player last month. It must have been on the bottom of the pallet because it had obviously been punctured by a forklift tine (I think that’s the right word). Before they shipped it to me they covered the opening with clear packing tape which did keep the random plastic bits from falling out. But they did replace it, took a couple days and the refund took a couple weeks.

I ordered from the scratch and dent pile on Amazon whenever the opportunity presents and I don't need the item quickly. If/when it shows up and isn't as I expected I return /exchange it and ultimately end up with a brand new item for the discounted price

An easy win for me and a F big FU to amazon.

They didn't offer an exchange, only a refund and actually are pushing for a credit instead. That's the scam I think, if you take the 'easy' way you end up spending your money there anyway.

Bastards.

Sometimes they don't want a return...they'll sometimes just send you a replacement (or refund).

If they sent you a replacement without wanting a return, then you have spare parts.

@GymB How's that working out? Can you recommend a decent Blu-Ray player?

My experience on players...just go buy one you like.

I've never bought a disc player of any kind that gave me problems. I remember buying a DVD player while I was playing geobachelor in the barracks the last few months before I retired out of the Navy. The lady at the register asked me if I wanted to buy an extended warranty on it. I told her no...it's already got a one year factory warranty and if it goes bad after that, I'll just drop another $20 on another one.

Still going good. And so are all the other disc players I've bought people. So you'll probably get your money's worth long before it goes bad.

My beef with Amazon is how they push knock off China crap even when I search something else. I could type in Bosch cordless drill and have to go through pages if Yin Yan drill or whatever before they show a single bosch drill if they show it at all. Same thing goes for almost everything I have tried to look for with them. It's infuriating.

Sorta kinda got used to that. I've found it with basically anything you search for. Searched for Dewalt driver bits...got a boatload of other choices...

Sorry, missed this. What @RetiredUSNChief said is pretty much spot on, they all work, so it comes down to features. I wanted 4k and optical digital output capable of delivering dolby digital to the sound system, found a Panasonic that did what I needed. I do tend to look first at the offerings from the TV brand I have just to minimize complexity of managing remotes.
