AMMO Act ... won't go anywhere, but, the noises these 'people' make are totalitarian

I remember, back in the day, when we had to record all pistol ammo purchases in a book. That included .22. That was such a tattered and worn out book. I often wondered if anyone had ever tried to solve a crime with one, because I thought it was useless.

I can see it getting out of Judiciary, but Iā€™ll be surprised if it makes it out of the Senate and itā€™s doa in the house.
But still troubling, cause almost half will support it.

I typically enjoy and agree with Mr. Langley on most all his videos. While he is correct in his statement that this bill is DOA, I feel he glosses over the long-term implications. The bill should continue to sound as an important alarm as to what will happen to our 2A rights should the ultra-left gain control of both houses of Congress.

This Act underscores my belief that gun rights and shooting sports will undergo major changes in the next 20 years. I believe that there is an increasing lean in the country towards the left. The people who are and will be formulating laws to ā€œsolveā€ the ā€œgun violenceā€ issue in America are people who do not possess competent knowledge of the Second Amendment, firearms, shooting sports, and crime data.

Just another law to harass the law abiding, while they do nothing to stop violent crime. This bill may be DOA now, but unless things change, it will become law sometime in the not-too-distant future once the left holds both houses. You and I may or may not still be around, but itā€™s coming.

Text of House Bill as introduced by Robert Garcia of California:

Too long/ Didnā€™t read (TL/DR):

All ammo sellers must have a license similar to FFL.

All ammo buyers must have ID card with name, address, unique number, etc. ID card issued after a background check.

Ammo purchases are limited to: 100 rounds of .50 caliber or 1000 rounds of all other types of ammo over a five day period.

No ā€œstraw purchasesā€ of ammo. I think this would also mean you canā€™t shoot my ammo at the range.

Within 30 days of purchase, seller must transfer purchase form to US Attorney General

Attorney General keeps form and then is to destroy the form after 60 days unless the form is needed in a ā€œbona fide criminal investigation or prosecutionā€.

Seller of ammo keeps form for ā€œno less than 2 yearsā€

I would have thought that Ms. Warren, a self-described American Indian, and Mr. Blumenthal, a person of Jewish persuasion if I am not mistaken, would be absolutely against anything that would disarm the citizens of this country knowing what they should know about how their kind have been and are presently being harmed because they did not have effective weapons to defend themselves.

If you read the bill they want to limit purchase to 1000 rounds every 5 days. It's not sounding terribly limiting from this angle. The bigger issue is the record keeping becoming something of a registry.
The bill makes no mention of reloading components. If you don't already you should strongly consider getting a set-up and supplies as a hedge against legislation like this that might pass in the future.

Limiting isn't their goal; control is. I did read the bill.

You won't be able to buy ammo on line, either, only at a LGS. Once the registry infrastructure (you're right about this as well) is in place, you can bet they will then add additional restrictions and waiting periods.

Costs will easily double, as has been seen in California where these laws are largely already in place. I travel there often for work and have experienced this first-hand.

Reloading components are already under hazmat shipping controls and these are very easy to clamp down on by controlling the shippers. They've already done this with FFL transfer restrictions in the past 2 years. So, no; reloading is not really an option unless you plan to make your own primers.

Bloomberg's billions are buying what they can, and the resulting dystopia is nigh.

So like that database of 4473 data they're not supposed to have, yet somehow admit to having regardless of the illegality of it?

But this time they SWEAR they're destroying the records.... oh, except in those special cases.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I agree with you on all points. My point was to focus on the registry/ control aspect of this as that's the dangerous part. So much gets lost in text format that would be quite clear in conversation.

When they first raised this concept in Illinois I invested in reloading stuff to hedge. Here we are 6-8 years later and Illinois has background checks required for ammunition purchases. They had been recording the caliber of each purchase until one of the rights groups raised a stink about the state police going further than the requirements of the law. Won't be long until that's codified as a requirement as well.

73Chall is correct. If this bill would pass the amount of ammo would start to dwindle down over time. Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Could be called the ā€œmaking ammunition more expensiveā€ bill.
Yes. Think about their war on tobacco products. They couldn't ban it. Instead they taxed it and the people into compliance. They've realized that firearms without ammo are just relatively poor clubs (Mosin and Garand owners excluded ;)).

Some dipshit gave them an inch and here we are a mile later.
Exactly. And thus it shall ever be. They will provide data at a later date showing this bill didn't go far enough. More limits. More data. More limits.

If my prediction is true about what will likely transpire over the next 20 years or less, we will more resemble Canada.

And that still will not be enough.

Disarmament is their goal. Remember: Crazy Beto had a ban and a confiscation plan for that black rifle. He didn't lose in Texas in 2018 to Cruz or in 2022 to Abbott by as much as he should have, all things considered.

It makes perfect sense once you realize it's about them personally and they couldn't give a turd less about their kind.

Typical gov B.S. and doesn't make any sense.
Within 30 days of purchase, seller must transfer purchase form to US Attorney General, but???
Seller of ammo keeps form for ā€œno less than 2 yearsā€. How can you keep a form for at least 2yrs that you have to turn over to the Gov within 30 days???

Iā€™m gonna start selling 80% pistol ammo. Not crimped, so doesnā€™t generally chamber. Buy 5k and get a free Lee single stage press and crimp die.
