Ammo Pricing Crystal Ball for 2020

Regardless of what happens on November 3, 2020, you can bet your bottom dollar that ammo prices are going to spike. That might be due to election results or the gun industry yet again ass ramming its customer base - or, more than likely, both. But be assured rises in prices will happen. I realize that some folks just can't afford to spend money on 1,000+ rounds at a time, but if you're truly worried about what 2020 and beyond may bring, you better be doing all that you can to stock up now. Hopefully you've been doing it for awhile now. We've been blessed with several years now of cheap ammo sales, and there's really few to zero reasons gun folks shouldn't be properly stocked by now.

Think of it like a tavern... why spend more on a 12oz bottle of beer when you can almost always get a 16oz draft for cheaper?

My prediction is that a Democrat will be president in 2020. We will enter the dark ages and it won't be through banning guns. The left will simply attack the 2A through ammo.

There will be ammo restriction through extreme taxation and/or background checks tied to firearms you admit to having. This will be a way to force a national firearms registry. Argentina, for example, only lets people but ammo for guns that are listed on their firearms registration, and only in very limited quantities per year.

Once those laws or executive orders are in place, the legal demand for civilian sales will plummet, manufacturing will be curtailed and prices will go up significantly. For a limited period of time, ammo components will continue to be unrestricted by govco, but demand will cause it to disappear off of shelves and prices will skyrocket. The black market for ammo will be scary and many people like us will buy any firearm for any cartridge just on the hope of having some quantity of ammo available.

I hope I'm wrong.
Wow. You're just a warm ray of sunshine. o_O

:D

Almost don't know how to say this without sounding goofy...….We are Not in the ammo market here. Enough and components to last our lifetime. We shoot Every Day......

Stock much, did ya?

The reason you spend more on a 12 ounce bottle than a 16 ounce draft is because draft beer sucks.

Primary factors , budget and frequency/ volume . Stop in the bar after work for a cold one and your $7 IPA is probably just fine. Get there early for a good seat ,
stay the whole game and closed the place down and you might want to think about those draft beers.
Run a few mags or cylinders once a month who cares about ammo prices. Shoot volume 3-4 times a month ( 2-3 hundred rnds./ session) and cost starts adding up. I've had a lot of practice in both disciplines and learned what works for me. All of us grasshoppers don't get to leave the temple.

I don't know what watering hole you drink at, but you gotta tell ol' barkeep to clean those keg lines from time to time.

Take this info with a grain of salt because he is after all in the business of selling you ammo today and tomorrow but SGammo just sent this out.

Thank you for subscribing to the SGAmmo.com newsletter. If you have trouble viewing this email you can see the newsletter at this link: Ammo Deals and 2020 Gossip

As we move in to 2020 I thought I would take a few minutes to gossip with all my newsletter subscribers about what is going on in the industry and how it may effect you, pricing, availability, etc. Demand has been strong and we are seeing some manufacturers come out with less attractive pricing in the 2020 programs. I do not want to name names but it seems that several of the major manufacturers attempting to push up on prices, although approximately 2/3 majority of manufacturers are holding steady at similar prices to 2019, at least on the more popular types of products like 223, 5.56, 9mm, 22LR and most of the basic range ammo. I have seen sharp price increases on hunting ammo in a few brands which seems odd to me but it is happening. I believe that strong supply will offset high demand and hold down prices where they are, at least for the most part, but some increases should be expected. For those people that are loyal to specific brands you may want to look at options to buy other similar brands at better pricing. I expect spotty supply on the products that are the best deals in their class as demand has been very high, especially for 9mm and 223/5.56 ammo. These 2 calibers have really been selling very well, but there are many options that are priced very aggressively compared to anything seen in the past 13 years. It is safe to say we are at a point in the market where it is at the bottom for the most part and any sensible investment made in inventory is unlikely to depreciate due to falling prices. 2020 also brings with it a real chance for a rebound in the market and pricing. We expect high demand to continue through the peak season of February, March and April. High demand may possibly last through the summer and fall seasons until November or longer and the election is settled, as politics and election years tend to amplify demand. I hope my input and details here help you make the best choices for your ammo needs and I wish you all a prosperous 2020.

Yeah they pretty much been saying the same thing for 18 months now. It's simple supply and demand with a little bit of market manipulation.

I was at Mid South Guns the other day. One guy was telling the other that ammo sales are on the rise for them. When I asked why, he said, “Wal Mart did us a big favor”.

I believe that between now and the Democratic National convention latter in the summer, is the best time to buy ammo in the upcoming few years. If you want it cheap do it now. Otherwise, you are gambling. Right now its a sure thing. Later...its a toss up. Stack it deep before the 4th of July.

I am sure a lot of the casual box or 2 at a time guys will start heading to the local GS. They don't really have a choice unless they are near and Academy, Cabela or Bass Pro. I have not noticed any change since we ticked over from 2019. SG Ammo, PSA, Brownells, Outdoor Limited etc... all seem to be selling pretty much the same stuff at the same prices. I assume a lot is still selling at 2019 prices because it shipped to them at 2019 rates.

Academy is selling Monarch branded brass cased S&B 115gr 9mm for 16 cpr.... And they have free shipping if you buy more than 3 boxes. Even if those 'casual' guys don't have one nearby, they can get it cheaper than any LGS sells brass 9mm for.

I have one of the ammo boxes full of 500 rounds of that stuff. $.17 shipped with tag in the plastic ammo box. When I bought it I thought it was going to be S&B. That was the word on the street but it is no longer S&B. It is now Armscor USA. You can tell by the headstamp. It still shoots about the same so no complaints.

I agree with you on Academy. I actually think for a lot of the common caliber stuff they are going to pick up the slack. They have had good 9mm pricing for a while. They sell Browning 9mm 124 at $24.99 all day everyday. That is rebranded Winchester. They have been selling Monarch cheap as well. IIRC is comes in about a $.01 cheaper before tax.

That said they are a pretty regional player. They only operate in 16 states and have about 250 stores. If you don't live in one of those states most people are not buying from them. Before I moved to KY I had never heard of them and to be honest until recently within the last 18 month I never found their ammo prices to be that competitive. When I lived in KY I remember them being more expensive.

Probably because they saw what happened to Dicks when they went full retard anti. IIRC they're still underperforming on the market relative to their marketshare

If you are talking about Dicks Sporting Goods I believe you would be wrong.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/dicks-sporting-goods-earnings-3q-2019

Dick’s Sporting Goods reported better-than-expected third-quarter results and raised its outlook for the rest of the year, sending shares surging.

Ticker Security Last Change Change %
DKS DICKS SPORTING 48.20 -0.39 -0.80%
The sporting goods retailer earned $57.6 million, or an adjusted 66 cents a share, as net sales rose 5.6 percent to $1.96 billion. Wall Street analysts surveyed by Refinitiv were anticipating adjusted earnings of 38 cents a share on net sales of $1.91 billion. Consolidated same-store sales climbed 6 percent.

E-commerce sales climbed 13 percent versus a year ago and made up 13 percent of total net sales, up from about 12 percent last year.

Dick’s Sporting Goods benefits from adding more Adidas Yeezy sneakers while eliminating gun sales

It is currently trading at within $2 of its 52 week high. It is at $48.60 today. Its 52 week high is $49.80 and its 52 week low is $31.27. It is up 51% in the last 12 months. The narrative that removing firearms from their stores hurt them is simply not true.

https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/dks?mod=MW_story_quote

We as the gun community might not like it but removing guns did not hurt them. They replaced that SQ footage with things that are more profitable. I believe that in the end Walmart is going to do the same. Other "sporting goods" products have higher margin than gun and ammo which is a race to the bottom.

Looks like Covid 19 has hit the ammo market. Prices are climbing. Places like Outdoor Unlimted are out of 9mm ball ammo.

FG&G was well-stocked when I went in yesterday around lunch. Of course, they had 600 fewer 5.56 and 7,000 fewer SRPs once I left. ;)

I ordered a 1k round case of Blazer brass 115 this morning along with 1k rounds of Privi 5.56. I got a confirmation email back from them. I hope I get it.

i noted at least 4 full 1000 rd bulk boxes of cci 115 grain on shelf thursday, and purchased sample lots of some 124 and 147 grain.... saw plenty of other 9mm in showroom.

have noted that PSA went UP on same 9mm bulk in the past week or so... was under 180, now nearing 199 , but verify on you own.

Online you can't place and order for any 9mm ball ammo from Outdoor Unlimited. Prices are went up overnight again. Seems like they started to jump Weds.

I am good and don't need to order just tracking it.

I guess I'll be shooting real extra slow for a while....Billy will like that! lol.

Penny Pincher that I am, I’m having a hard time shooting 15 cent ammo that’s now apparently worth 23 cents. o_O

For all of that to happen we have to tolerate it. I won't and you shouldn't either.

Just curious ... is it any more accurate now that it is 50% more expensive?
