Bought this to move my safe, but thanks to penske, I never got a chance to use it.

Well I needed to move the safe since I'm getting my reloading bench delivered tomorrow, so I broke it out.

And it works great. Did have to tip the safe ever so slightly to get the lift arms under it, but it was light as a feather after that. Great tool to have.

$500????? holy crap! I guess if you can afford that, and dont want to kill yourself.

I didnt have anyone to help me when I got my safe, it was 550lbs, laid down flat in the bed of my truck, i got it stood up, on a handtruck and in my house alone. it was a huge PITA but I did it.

$500 for something you'll use maybe twice, is a lot of dough.

The industrial version of these are known as a 'hydraulic roll-a-lift', and come in 1 to 6 ton capacities.

My safe was delivered to my garage on a pallet.

I rented a 3-ton roll-a-lift from my local industrial tool rental place (Sunbelt Rentals, Durham), for $80/day ($210/week).

That plus a pallet jack and some 4x4 cribbing enabled me to solo jack up the 1,800 lb safe to the height of the door to the house (about 9 inches), and then just roll the safe inside into the room it lives in.

The only challenge is the forks are about 1 inch thick. To drop the safe on the floor required tipping, and where the safe lives (built into cabinetry, there was no space to tip. I ended up just leaving the safe on 1.5 inch cribbing in order to pull out the roll-a-lift.
