So let me start by saying that I am NOT a wrestling fan.
When I was about 10-12 I watched WWE or WWF or something for a bit, maybe a year total, but just never a huge fan.

That said, I watched, on Saturday, a movie called Andre the Giant - it a documentary/biography on the famous wrestler.
WOW.
I knew who the guy was, but didnt know a lot about him really.
I didnt realize his NC connection, and that he owned a home about 45 minutes away from where I live now. Elerbee NC, said it reminded him of farmland France.

And, by the end, you'll really feel bad for this man who was plagued by health issues due to his condition which made him so large (over 7' and close to 500lbs...or at least that's how it's advertised).

Id say that whether you were a fan or not, it's worth watching.

I met him once in an Airport Bar in Cincinnati back in the early 1980's. He was a nice guy.

I seen one a few years ago,, maybe the same one. Well worth watching
No, this is a different one that JUST came out in the past few weeks on HBO, its an HBO original.

Its touching dude, seriously gets sad.

That's how the doc made it seem - that he was genuinely a nice man who wanted to please people.
Always seemed to have a smile on his face up until the health issues.

I think he had a condition in which he continued to produce growth hormone throughout his entire life. I feel sorry for anybody that big..... I will check it out.

I read a sentence the other that said he ripped a 16 second fart and temp. shut down production of the princess bride

He did, they talked about it in the video how it made him just grow and grow and grow. He pretty much didnt stop growing up until his death.
They said what the condition was, I dont remember what it was though.

I remember reading some legendary stories about unheard of amounts of alcohol he could consume.

He was a pretty amazing fellow in my opinion. Loved him in The Princess Bride. Make the very best with what you have for as long as you have it...

The movie talks about that too - often half a dozen bottles of wine A DAY. And beer. And mixed drinks.

Ric Flair is on there, as is Hulk Hogan. They were talking about how most wrestlers would have a six pack after a night...he had at least 24 pack. At least.

Hulk Hogan is what, 6’8” tall and 300lbs? Even he looked small beside Andre.

Condition is called Acromegaly, my wife (pharmaceutical chemist) worked for ever on drugs for that condition. My favorite joke is that I have Acromegaly from the waist down and my wife rolls her eyes....

I used to deer hunt a lot in Ellerbe. My hunting buddy lived and worked there. He worked p/t on the farm that Andre's manager "Frenchie"
owned. You would often see Andre out and about in town and in Rockingham. I saw him at Little Bo's, a steak house. He would take off his ring and could drop a 50 cent piece through it. He could hide a tall boy Bud can in his hand. Super nice and friendly guy.

Meh, Hogan was never that big. He was probably 6'6" and 275 lbs in his juiced-up prime.

Most people trying to accurately guess Andre's height think he was close to or right at 7' tall. I heard Hogan claim to have seen Andre step on an airport scale and weigh 700 lbs too. I don't believe that either.

I think it's wild to watch the A&E biography from 10+ years ago and the HBO special from this year to see how the folks they both interviewed aged in the interval.

Someone has ripped the HBO documentary onto Youtube already. I can't recommend that somebody cheat the documentary makers by watching the ripped version, but you should know it's there.

Andre was a fascinating man

Felt bad for the guy. Lived his life 100 mph since he knew he wouldn't live long.
Yeah, he knew he was limited on time, but said that it was just the way God had made him.

Again, IM NOT a wrestling fan...but now Im a fan of this guy.

Yep. Good show. I watched "rasslin'" when I was a pup. Other than the tumbling and throws which at the turn of the century (2oth) was an art form and a much enjoyed physical fitness activity, the rest is nauseating. Andre was a very likeable, giant. He was in constant pain in all his joints which I have come to understand intimately. Drank like 10 men to dull the pain. He loved that farm and it was very probably a smart investment, at least for his daughter. I had forgotten that he was gone and left us a long time ago.

I’m about to watch it now I saw the documentary last night on HBO now app. Ended up watching the farming documentary about hanging pigs, interesting. They showed both sides and let you make your own decision and opinions
