Mosquitoes killing livestock in Louisiana after hurricane
Farmers in a five-parish area have probably lost 300 to 400 cattle, one veterinarian said

The mosquitoes, which were pushed from Louisiana swamps as a result of the storm, are draining blood from deer and cattle, as well as a few goats and horses, who become exhausted from blood loss and die, veterinarian Craig Fontenot told the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center.

"They canā€™t get enough oxygen," Fontenot explained.

Just crazy. Bad thing is the animals suffered. 2020 is a crazy year with all thats happened. Let's hope 2021 is much better .

I HATE a damned skeeter.
I dont trust the genetically modified male skeeters used to decimate the skeeter population. Now they've been released, i hope there's no negative side effects, and it works.

This year they are tiny little suckers. I can't walk outside for a few minutes with out getting bit. Last year they were bigger and easier to swat!

That sucks.

Time to bring back the First NC CSA Bat Brigade! Airborne bug catchers!

Big 'em on.

And we will turn your killer hornets in to turds.

Bring back DDT.

I was just reading about this. I was thinking if a group could kill a cow, imagine how quickly they could kill a person. Thats gotta be a messed up way to go...smacking yourself repeatedly while getting sucked dry...ughhhh

We wear clothes. Stupid livestock should put on some clothes.

They essentially die of anemia, not enough circulating hemoglobin to carry oxygenated blood, which leads to heart attacks. Then they die. It's not that they are mosquitoes, it's the sheer volume....literally death from a thousand cuts.

The other issue with hurricanes and tropical storms that come from the south, is some of the mosquitoes likely carry malaria and other vector-borne diseases.

that's the other hammer that's waiting to drop.
but of course, the deaths would likely be due to covid...

Mosquitoes are by far the most dangerous (to humans) animal on earth, and pretty much have been since we took ourselves out of the food chain.

Well... maybe humans are the most dangerous to humans, but mosquitoes kill 700,000 to one million people a year.

Fortunately, we live in a country where mosquito-caused death is so low we barely give them credit.

Statistically speaking, mosquitoes have killed 500-1,000 people since this thread started. If mosquito-borne illness had killed even 10 people in the US this month, it would be front-page news.

The US used be rampant with malaria, yellow fever, and other mosquito-borne disease. Hundreds if not thousands would die every year.
