Looks like this one was also an armed robber as his warm up.

EVERETT, Wash. -- Authorities in Washington arrested an 18-year-old man on Tuesday who was said to be planning an attack on a school. The alleged plan was foiled by his grandmother.

Court documents say the 18-year-old had a semi-automatic rifle hidden in a guitar case, bomb making equipment and "detailed plans to shoot people at Aces High School" where he was a student.

Authorities say the rifle matches one used Monday to rob a convenience store, and that O'Connor wrote in his journal "about how powerful he felt and how scared the female cashier was at him pointing his gun at her."

Could not imagine the sadness it would cause a parent...having to turn your kid in

Or knowing they did something like that

Well that implies some level of failure or insufficiency as a parent, real or not. This is where I think some don't take action. They don't want to admit or face then prospect that they have somehow failed.

The article refers to his feeling of power over the clerk. That's usually what it's all about, power. They feel disenfranchised, powerless. So, they commit a desperate act to demonstrate they do have power. That's why it's usually the weaker ones that do this. Those that have more control over their life and it's direction are less prone to act out.
IMHO
