In Charlotte NC...

I have a friend who inherited a couple 100 (ish) year old firearms. He is interested in having them reviewed, cleaned up and repaired if necessary.Any recommendations on where to take them or who to ask to look at them?

  • FN Browning WWII era Pistol
  • Waffenwerk Oberspree Kornbush & Co long barreled German Sniper Rifle
  • Two other WWII or earlier rifles.

He would like all 4 looked at, identified (if possible) and evaluated... The named rifle brought to fireable condition... and if practical, the pistol brought to fireable condition. All 4 were last fired in the mid 1960s.

Any input or direction is appreciated!

Yes OP, as @MacEntyre said, get your friend to take some good quality photos of each weapon and any makings each one have and post them up. I'm always surprised by how quickly our members can identify antique firearms (as @gsimmons just demonstrated).

Then your friend can figure out their value and whether or not restoration is the route he wishes to take.

Yes,that Kornbusch is a rare gun, but it’s collectible value has been ruined by the sporterizing. Shame. Kornbusch GEW 98s are very hard to find.

I can’t recommend a Smith in Charlotte, but Scott Ledford at Ledford’s Trading Post in Hickory is good.
