Any gas adjustment needed on SBR?

Just shot a new SBR for the first time today. DD MK18 upper (2022) with rugged razor suppressor. Went through about 150 rounds with 0 malfunctions, but my brass was ejecting right at 3 o’clock. I have a DD grip and rip CH and surprisingly I was getting absolutely 0 gas in the face.

With no malfunctions and 0 gas issues, is the 3 o’clock ejection worth worrying about? I know 4 is the right angle, but I’m figuring 3 is just fine if everything works as expected.

I don’t keep up with anything DD does, but the MK18 has historically been ridiculously over-gassed. Is your mentioning of it being a 2022 mean they’ve fixed it?

I personally think 3 vs 4 is kind of splitting hairs. I wouldn’t care about a difference there unless I was in the business of selling buffers or springs. 1 o clock different story

Ok that’s good to hear. I have a spare SA gas block laying around but would much rather keep the DD factory pinned block. Sounds like I’m g2g.

It sounds like you ran it only suppressed, may want to do the same drill without the suppressor just to make sure it functions both ways.
I have guns that run fine suppressed but not enough back pressure without.

That is the only thing I would worry about now.

Interesting enough there was no change between suppressed and um suppressed when it came to ejection angle.

Very good.
Some cans have more back pressure than others.
That combo sounds GTG.

I just picked up another SBR 300BO banshee need to head to the range. They put an adjustable block on all of them. Good and bad.

I guess it’s a bit of a trade off because with the can, it’s just barely hearing safe. Doesn’t seem to have much back pressure at all though.

If we’re talking 5.56/.223, or any supersonic center fire rifle round, I would be leery of thinking it’s hearing safe. It might not be ringing your ears, but 150 shots without ear pro are still doing some damage.
Certainly it’s much better if a scenario arises when you need to shoot without ear pro, but be careful doing it regularly.

Yeah…there isn’t a combo on the market of 5.56/.223 can and host that’s truly hearing safe. You might fall just below the magical 140dB line on a shot, but unless it’s a defensive scenario beyond my control, I’m not pulling the trigger on a supersonic round without plugs in.

Very sound advice!

I meant more like I can use it in my house for defense purposes and not worry about hearing damage. Definitely used hearing protection at the range.

You could always run a heavier buffer. Way easier than messing with the gas system. I am a big fan of the Armaspec SRS. I have a MK18 that I ran a Razor on with the H3 SRS and it was awesome. Way better recoil impulse and no annoying TWANG every shot.

Nice I’ll look into that. I have a vltor a5 system on it with what I believe is an A2 but don’t recall. I think it runs well though so I’ll probably just leave it.

Don't mess with success. I couldn't tell you where my brass ejects and I honestly don't care. I'd recommend the following:

Shoot 300 rounds suppressed.
Don't clean gun
Shoot another 500-800 rounds suppressed
Don't clean gun
Shoot the gun suppressed another 2,000 rounds
Don't clean the gun

Ok this is getting repetitive. Just never clean the gun.

But seriously, since I've got my cans, I don't think I've shot a single round unsuppressed. If the gun runs well with the can and dirty (think 1000 rounds) I wouldn't change a thing.
