I know a lot of forum members have side x sides/ UTVs, ATVs, etc...posting here to see if there is any interest in putting together a group ride in West Virginia on the H&M trails.

Post up here if you are...if there is interest we can take the next step and start to put something together later this spring.

Thanks.

I am interested!

For UTVs: Rule 5 - Possess a valid owner’s manual for the machine being operated that is able to be produced upon request.

I'll need to get one.

Huh?

I see it now, you were quoting one of the rules of their website.. who exactly is going to be “requesting” this manual and for what purpose??

Believe it or not they have Rangers that ride around and also up in WV you can ride on the streets to town so you may have police contact. Great place to ride !!

You ever see motorcycles on these trails? I’ve considered taking a trail bike up, but it seems like these trails are more oriented towards 4-wheelers.

DNR Rangers may ask to see it...they have ramped up patrols on the trails in recent years, but "enforcement" has always been finicky. Next time I go up I will ask...and I just sent an email asking. I have never had the owner's manual with me and have never been asked for it.

As late as 2015 we had our granddaughter in a car seat strapped in our ranger and ran up on a DNR checkpoint on the Pocahontas trail...what a bottleneck that was...she had a decal on her helmet and that's all that mattered, even though you can't use a car seat and no one younger than 6 is allowed on the trails at all, they let us pass....have a great time and be safe out there! They had two razors pulled over that had beer in coolers...a big no no.

Agree, it's a weird requirement, and you don't need one for your ATV or ORV (Jeep, bronco, etc...), only SxS/UTVs, so why at all?

Yes...two wheels are allowed on the trails, plus there is dedicated single track.

The Outlaw trails are great too !! I use to belong to an ATV/UTV club based out of Winston Salem. As long as you act like you have some sense you won't have any problems. ENJOY

Things like this make me realize how much I’ll really miss the freedoms of AZ whenever it is that I eventually leave. There is no one out here checking or enforcing anything on the BLM land and that’s why I always turn people down then they want to plan a ride on the CA side.

Don't worry. Somebody will come along and take away those AZ freedoms, too, one day...

Because petty rules made to make badge Karen's feel important?
That apostrophe doesn't need to be there. It's neither showing possession nor a contraction of two words.
Man, I feel better now!

This is who I read showed an interest, but there are a lot more folks here that ride...

@MacEntyre @Slacker @DESi @303hunter @Carolinatlc

To give us time to organize, will throw out Friday May 31 - Sunday Jun 2...far enough out that we can all find lodging/camping. Then decide on trail(s), maybe stay at or near Ashland ATV Resort and ride the southern trails or up north someplace, like the Devils Backbone Adventure resort or similar. Just throwing out ideas knowing its harder to organize the first time.

We prefer the green and some blue trails, easy mountain cruising for the scenery & sights, not rat racing from point a to point b and no interest in diamond/double black diamond adventures.

Thoughts?

Easy trails and beautiful scenery sounds wonderful. This one comes recommend.

I’d be down for some easy mountain trail cruising! That weekend may be tough and crowded BC of the Holiday. I’ve never ridden in WV and don’t know the area, but I do sometimes think my cousin is hot if that helps. :)
Great.

Hoping that since 29th-2 is the weekend after Memeorial day weekend it might not be as crowded.

We can throw out some other dates and poll it...I plan on going up multiple times this year. Two new trails opening this year, Braveheart and Big Coal. There is also the Spearhead system in Virgina and the new Hillbilly system in Kentucky (it will eventually link to H&M trails).

Wish our state & western counties would figure this out and put a system together.

...and they have A LOT of vacancy for that weekend, looks really nice

We rode Rock House at Hatfield & Mcoy on ATVs a few years ago, was a blast. I hear Pocahontas is another one of their trails that is sandy, smooth and relatively easy.

I should have a working ATV by then and I also have a Chinese off road buggy (think poor man's side by side) that I would like to try on those trails as well. I'm quite interested in this trip. 👍

The Rock House trip:
