I'm hoping to get out to one of the fields around the Butner-Falls Gamelands this Saturday for opening day. I usually go down to north Georgia to a big organized shoot with my father, but I'll be staying up here this year. I know it will probably be relatively crowded, but hopefully that will keep the birds moving.

Anyone else going out for doves this weekend?

Yup. Got a permit for Sandy Mush opening day!

3 - 4 of us going.

Not this year. I'll be in the mountains we're it's cooler!

Not sure yet. I have a spot to hunt. And it looks like my daughter is getting a replacement shotgun from CZ in time. But we let the kids pick an activity the weekend before their bday and that got screwed up last weekend for her. So I told her we have 3 options; dove hunt or sporting clays if her shotgun gets here, or whatever else she wants to do. If I'm not in a dove field I'll probably be hiking in the mountains. Can't really go wrong.

Since my legs aren't long enough to wade the mud in Brownsville I guess I'll be sitting somewhere twiddling my thumbs 'cause we all know there ain't crap for doves in NC, except for backyards....

I've seen plenty of doves around town, but who knows if they'll actually make it out to the game lands.

For me, the public lands are 20 minutes away and they don't require a permit, so it's a cheap gamble. And if I get out there and don't fire a single time, I won't have lost much other than a nice day outside. But I can see having a different attitude about it if I had to travel a significant distance and/or pay money to hunt.

ill ask the wife if I can go down this weekend to the land for a half day of killing birds. I'm psyched.

if I'm able to go and if any paying member wants to join me down in Clinton let me know

Heading up to a friends place in the Northern Neck of Va. Shoot some doves Sat. and Sun. and early goose will be in, so may get to knock a couple of geese down. Sunflower and corn field they started cutting last week. Should be about prime when we get there and the non migratory geese should be all around, hopefully feeding in the lower field where we can get to them, cause I sure as hell am not going into the marsh this time of year.

Speaking of geese during dove season, as we all know you MUST use non toxic shot for ALL waterfowl and have NO lead shot in your possession. How ya'll going to handle that little issue??

I'm heading to private land in Mebane with a group of clay shooting buddies. The hunting fee is nominal and includes a very nice lunch. It should be a nice day outdoors with good friends regardless of how successful or not we are.

I'll be out there someplace. I haven't missed an opening day in nearly 50 years. If I don't go the world will surely end.

A few years back in Dunn, we had 60 around one field and everyone was at limit. My hunting partner bailed after I was lined up, got a licence and am ITCHING to try out my Citori.
I'll be working in the yard, @&*#%!!!
