have decided to change sights on my 1911, and these caught my attention. but I wanted to kind of run it past the gallery.

  • Anyone here used this design/setup?
  • if so what's your take
  • any isssues
  • any reason NOT to get them.
and finally any real advantage or disadvantage to a fixed setup like this compared to a set with an adjustable rear?

They're fine sights, I ran the Sevigny's for a long time.

However, I much prefer adjustable sights after buying some. Being able to dial in your sights exactly where you want them to hit, at exactly the distance you want is worth the extra price.

Dawson Adjustables for the win.

just went back and a set from Dawson wasn't as much of a price jump as I thought ($93 instead of the $180 or so i'd seen for adjustable sets elsewhere, compared to $77 for the Warrens)

so that's another thing to contemplate. and any and all further comment, feedback, input is still very welcome far from decided here.. :)

I have the plain rear with tritium front on a Glock 19 and a 17 and have a set I need to put on my 43. I really like them.

Warren on my M&P. Black out rear with fiber optic front. Really like it for quickly picking up the front sight.
Did this on my 1911 and am thinking about doing the Dawson's on my M&P. I like the plain black rear and red front much more than I thought I would. For some reason I thought I HAD to have 3 dots.

I'm a big fan of a U-notch, so I have those Warrens, not the Sevigny.
Pros
Black and FO is a fantastic combination for all but a pretty narrow level of illumination I've never come across in competition.
They are hard, so if you are rough on your guns they'll take it in stride.
The 1911 rear's face is fully serrated.

Cons
They are blued or black oxide, so they will rust.
The Glock rear is not serrated and the edges will eventually polish up and glare a bit.
The front does not have as much exposed fiber to gather light as Dawsons do.
The front blade is on the wider end of the current trend in action shooting games, doesn't bother me.

For competition I think the ability to adjust your sights so your bullets go exactly where you want without thinking about it outweighs the potential liability of a rare sight failure or loss of adjustment.

I used Sevigny Carry sights on a pistol once, liked 'em a lot.

Nowadays, I jus' go with what's on the pistol, learn to choot 'em. It's just an interesting psychological phenomenon...

I put a fixed U notch rear sight on one of my 1911's, and I really need to be able to adjust elevation because I shoot that gun low as heck for some reason. That slide is being cut for adjustable Novaks as we speak.

I have a fixed U notch rear on a G43 though and love it.

well I bought and installed the Dawson adjustable set...

If I have finally gotten the rear sight centered in the slide (even with the various Dawson tutorials I have been having a devil of a time getting consistent measurements of the rear sight in relation to the slide, front sight was no problem), I should have everything Dialed in after my next range trip. but I am at least loving the sight picture.
