Just curious if we have any hunters here that have used this round?

If so........

What round did you use? Seems the only factory load ive seen that might be decent is the hornady custom sst. I dont think black would make for a good one, nor the wolf or federal.

I hunted with mine this year. Only took 1 with the custom SST round. I was not too impressed.

~215 yrds low shoulder shot, he took 3-5 steps and looked around like nothing happened. I didn't want him running off wounded so I added another shot for good measure. This one was straight on into the brisket. Deer ran about 20 yards and fell at the edge of the woods.
1st shot did not exit no blood trail.

2nd shot fragmented in chest cavity and had fragments exit on both sides of the ribcage. no blood from those either.

After this I loaded up some Hdy Black to try them out. I didn't see anything else the couple days I got out.

I’ve got a Grendel, but haven’t hunted with it yet. Generally the sst rounds are hit or miss, but the Hornady Black or Fusion rounds are pretty decent from what I read.

I was going to build one, and I read a lot of good with the Hornady Black rounds. There are other good round that come up, but I read that one consistently.

I use SST’s in my .270. They’re made to fragment, that’s what the tip is for. I rarely kill anything with horns cause I haven’t seen one bigger than the last one i killed in years now. I make head shots on the rest. That said I have a lower sitting in the safe that’s built and dedicated to a Grendel upper. Just haven’t finished it. When i finish it I’ll be loading my own for it and I’ll try a couple different rounds on deer.

Does Nosler make a 6.5G appropriate Accubond? The 110gr in my 6.8SPC is great & a lot of 6.8 guys swear by the 100gr AB as well.

They have it in 130gr but Im not sure if that would work in the ar15 platform. bolt guns and creedmoor's but idk about grendel.

Nosler makes some ballistic tip hunting bullets though

It could just be that the SST isn't that great a hunting bullet. 6.8 guys found out quick that the 120gr would kill, but that it damaged a lot of meat & had a tendency to "explode". Fine for coyotes & feral hogs, not so great for meat hunting.

90gr Speer Gold Dots & 110gr Sierra Pro Hunters are reckoned good stuff in 6.8, but I have no idea what's what in 6.5. With 6.8, there are a ton of .277 bullets available, but most designed for the .270, therefore too long or requiring much more velocity for expansion. I'd imagine the situation isn't much different in 6.5/.264.

I got two Grendels, one pinned 14.5" and a 24", I'm a bowhunter, but my son has taken 5 deer with these rifles, using the 123 SSTs. Shots ranged from 33 yards to 235 yards. All but one was DRT, and that one only made it 30 yards. All were pass throughs, all double lung shots. I have used the Amax for a few coyotes, not really a hunting round, but it tore them up pretty good, which is OK to me, I wanted them dead.

I built one to hunt with but I haven't taken a deer with it. But I had it loaded with federal fusion because the round has a good track record.

I have shot several deer with the 120gr 6.9 SPC SST and finally lost one this year. When they work they are devastating but will grenade if they hit bone. I am going to try the SSA 110 gr Prohunters next year. They don't shoot as well as the SST in my rifle but are plenty accurate for hunting.

I finally got my Howa mini action in 6.5 Grendel set up late in the season last year and all the bucks I saw before gun season started were in hiding. I bought a couple boxes of Hornady 123 grain SST to hunt with, but they turned out to be somewhat less accurate than the 123 grain Hornady Black. I'm looking at reloading some this year and trying the Nosler 100 grain ballistic tip. Has anyone here had any experience with this bullet? The reviews at Midway look pretty good.
