How cool would it be to own a crew serve belt fed? 15K is a bit much, but still...

Not semi-auto.

we were issued the M240B in the winter of 1997 in the 82nd Airborne. I remember turning in my beloved M60 and pulling into the range hearing the M240B's shooting on gas setting 3. It was one of the fastest rates of fire I ever heard until we went to Germany and shot the MG-3

My first unit still had legacy M60E3s. I shot it, loved it, and like a week later they were gone. I liked the M240 a lot, but given my job not my TO weapon. But it's a great gun.

I never really served in a weapons company, I did do one 3-week AT when I was in the reserves attached to a weps company, I humped the mortar baseplate for one of the mortars (81 or 60, I don't remember...alls I remember it was effing heavy...).

It's way too much for a semi...........................

We never got the 240’s in the corps by the time I got out in 96. We were still toting the pig.

From what I understand there were still units running 60’s all the way up into the 2000’s.

Of course there were marine units that still ran the 1919 in Vietnam too.

The 240 is a great gun. I was raised on the M60 and only saw 240s as tank coax guns. The units I served with only had 60s up until the mid 90s.

Never got to play with either the M249 or the 240B. I re-classed out of the mech Infantry with the Pig & the Ma Deuce into the medical field & crew serveds were a NOGO for us. Then, when I went PSYOP, I had enough rank that there was no way they were putting me on a crew & every MG range I attended, I was either the ammo NCO, an RSO, or the RO & had no chance to play.

Cliff Clavin moment- German machine gunners reckon it a mark of their their skill when they can squeeze off a single round with the MG3. That thing is a frikkin' bullet hose.
