I am wanting to change to carry appendix. Problem is, I am a bit larger in the middle.

Any other tactically large guys carry appendix? Im a bit of a muffin top build personally. What holsters are you using?

What tips and tricks do you have?

I lost 50# and can carry appendix MUCH easier now. Not the kind of tip you wanted but it’s the tip it got! [emoji12]

Only other thing I’d say is to get a holster like Vedder that allows you to tinker with some cant to find perfect angle. Might also try a holster that sits deeper so belly doesn’t “fold” grip over pants as much.

Avoid kydex, it will dig into your spare tire. Use soft leather or nylon for maximum comfort but slower, more careful reloading. A holster that lets the gun ride lower will carry better but will be a slower draw. One good thing about appendix carry is it almost makes the gun impossible to detect if done right.
Take a look at these holsters. I own two. They are good quality, about $20 shipped, and made in Mr. Trump's America:

The only “tip” I am worried about with appendix carry is...... well I don’t want anything firearm related pointed at it. Let’s just leave it at that so the mods don’t have to fuss at me. :D

I did, but the winter belly got the best of me. I was printing like I had a 18" boner tucked in my waistband. It really is best with a flatter stomach. I really like to carry aiwb but I dont think I can pull it off any more. My wife said towards the end of summer you are skinny. I dont want to just be able to carry that way for 2 months, gotta realize I am not the sexy man god I thought I was.

have always carried appendix. Mexican carry?
the best motivation for my weight-loss program.

This is what I carry appendix.

I'm not fat and not skinny but somewhere in between. My method is the opposite of what everyone else has suggested. I keep the grip above the beltline and angled up. That way when I sit down the muzzle isn't grinding into my unmentionables.

I've been using one called a "Sticky" made from neoprene. Slips into a pocket, under the belt, pretty much anywhere there is enough room to slip the gun in, the holster will stay put. I've worn it appendix, 3oclock, behind back, in a pocket, it just works for me. Since it's soft, there's no digging in like with kydex. Need to take it off, just slip it out from whatever is holding it in place. Love it.

I have taken an UNLOADED Glock and tried to dry fire it while inside the cheapest, crappiest soft nylon holster I could dig outta the junk drawer. No dice. I will admit it takes a little getting used to though.

Holster is the key to aiwb carry, imho.
You'll definitely want to angle the grip upward to avoid some uncomforable situations lol. It might dig into your leg a bit instead of...well, you know. And after you sit, if you have to adjust a little, noone notices or cares because men naturally do that anyway a lot of times.
As others have said, I don't particularly enjoy kydex for aiwb either. It's not comfortable at all.
Even leather aiwb holsters can be uncomfortable. Try to go as minimal as possible with the holster to help with comfort.
I went through a cool dozen holsters before I got this one. It makes a CZ PCR disappear.

It's overpriced a bit, imo, but it was a gift and turned out to be the best one Ive ever tried. Fully adjustable for cant and height with two retention screws. I've bern carrying in this holster for three years now and have no complaints. You will have to periodically retighten the cant screw, though, or locktite it when you find the right height/cant combo. If you can find something similar cheaper, this style would probably be the way to go.
Haven't specifically asked, but Im sure @chiefjason could make one for less.

As far as the tactical muffin top thing, I got nothin. I'm a skinny dude.

Edited to add: about loctiting that screw...a friend has loctited his, but I dont recommend it. I broke the clip on mine about a year ago and had to replace it. Much easier to do if it's not loctited.

Weight loss plan is in motion, I have gained a lot over the last 2 years from stress at work (it was bad! Now that it's better I'm stuck with the aftermath)

I'm wanting to go to appendix because of work. It's a concealed is concealed type carry, and my normal 3-4 would not work, as it would be exposed within an hour.

I have tried a few times with no real luck or thought. I have tried a sheild, Kahr, G19, and most recently my M& P9C, but it dug in both belly and leg.

shows what I have been against, with a bit of humor. I was playing with it tonight, Mexican carry with a cleared gun, but I didn't have the movement he did, but really low was manageable for a short time.

I appendix carry a 26 most of the time. TR Holsters kydex. Works really well for me.

Only trick for comfort is an undershirt tucked in, but I think that's probably the case w most aiwb carry .

I carry AIWB every day either a Glock 43 or a M&P 2.0c in a Tulster profile holster

Ha, thank you.
Just so you know, ranting redneck is our resident kydex expert, chiefjason is our leather man, and gunbelt is...well, gunbelt lol. He does great belts and some amazing exotic leather rigs.

RR, just PMed you.

I carried 4:00 today IWB and while it hid rather well, there are things that I can't do, like draw while driving and in that spot it needs to be ling or short, my 9c is just between and gets uncomfortable, but that could be holster choice as well.

I cannot do it comfortably, but if I was to try I would look at the N82 holster

But a valid tip, nonetheless!

I think too many people forget the fact that not only does body shape affect where and how they can carry, but that they can often CHANGE that body shape as well.

Totally agree...ive lost around 40 so far and my carry comfort has changed dramatically. I used to have to use hybrid types because kydex only holsters dug into my gut too much, even on the sides with my spare tire. Now that those are greatly diminished ive moved to almost always carrying kydex single clips.

Dunlop disease (belly done lopped over the belt) prevents appendix carry for me. 4 o’clock owb in a good pancake style makes even my full size disappear.
You sir are only the second person that I have witnessed to know that joke. I say it all the time and people just drool in confusion.

I occasionally carry a Smith J Frame AIWB in an old suede Safariland holster that sits deep with the clip behind my belt. It's not preferred but works for deep deep concealment. This is particularly good in a non-permissive environment where initial security pat-down is possible. No low rent security guard is going to go poking around my junk.

Nothing larger than a J Frame works for me. That said a Glock 42 can also set deep.

I’m 6’1”, 225 lbs. some belly overhang when I wears a belt. I carry my G19 in an Integrated Survival Systems kydex IWB at 1:30. Works fine for me. I’m ultra careful when I holster the gun, though.

Leather slipper holster with a cuff to prevent it from coming out, belt hugger positioning that some teachers don't like, an' never reholster without first removin' the holster, so that ya put the holstered gun back in yer belt, always.

Oh, an' strong side fer semi-autos an' small revolvers, cross draw fer larger revolvers.
